Weekly Principal Update
Week of January 6th, 2020

JANUARY, 2020

Epiphany, the day the three wise men arrived to greet the baby Jesus, happens 12 days after Christmas. This makes Epiphany fall on January 6th, 2020. This is also the origin of the 12 Days of Christmas, making Epiphany the 12th Night of Christmas.

January Dates and Events are listed on the school website:   https://www.saintbernardgb.com/events/

Dear Families,
Thank you all for a lovely December as a school community. As a school, we provided Christmas gifts to five of our school families, household essentials to 20 parish families, musical joy to local retirement communities and a great deal of joy to one another throughout the entire month. Thank you for your kindness both in words and deeds. Your warmth is felt and appreciated!

This month we will be working toward our Catholic Schools Week Celebration which kicks off Sunday, January 26th with our Open House Event and the first day of Open Enrollment online. I will begin to add important information about these efforts as we get into the month of January. Additionally, we will be working with the organization, Smile Train, to raise funds for cleft palettes with our annual CSW Penny War. This choice to work with this organization comes from our theme "Peace begins with a smile," and the desire to raise awareness as to the importance of everyone's right to access a smile that they can confidently and easily share with others.

This coming week we will be coordinating our annual ACCESS testing for our ELL students, Winter MAPS testing for those who we want to mid-year benchmark, and looking at our absence and grade reports to provide interventions as needed.\

Finally, this will be our first year of working with Fr. Mark to provide an Epiphany Blessing for our school building. This will be happening mid-morning on Friday, January 10th so that our students can participate in this type of blessing. Read more about this event here:  Catholic Culture, and /or Aletia

Principal Letter for January 6th, 2020

Welcome to 2020!  Are you looking for a New Year’s resolution?  Try these:

  • Commit to buy scrip on a regular basis - $150 to $200 per week will help you meet your school scrip requirement.  It is easy to do just with groceries and gas.  You will help the school meet fundraising requirements and earn credits to help pay for your tuition.
  • Recruit family and friends to buy scrip and have it credited to your account.  They just need to complete the non-school family side of the scrip agreement and indicate your family on the school family name line   The scrip agreement can be found on the school website under Fundraising/Scrip/Forms.  https://s3.amazonaws.com/graceschools-6-1-18/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/08/09090058/St.-Bernard-SCRIP-Combined-agreement-2019-2020.pdf
  • Sign up for scrip online.  You will receive advanced notice of special rebates and new vendors.  Even if you don’t want to purchase online having an account allows you to see what you have purchased and the rebates you have earned.  Email scrip@stbernardcong.org with your preferred email and your desired username.
  • Volunteer for scrip Selling scrip at the parish office during the week or at church on weekends is a great way to support St. Bernard School and meet your volunteer hour requirement.  Volunteering is fun and you get to meet some wonderful people.  Just an hour per month would be an easy and rewarding contribution.  Contact Ann Selk, scrip coordinator at scrip@stbernardcong.org for more information.

Any questions? Need help signing up online, accessing MyScripWallet or volunteering? Contact Ann Selk at scrip@stbernardcong.org or call the parish office at 468-4811
