Weekly Principal Update
Week of September 23rd, 2019

HELP! WHERE WAS THAT?!

The beginning of the school year can be a very hectic time! It is no wonder that we have a hard time remembering everything that was shared with us in August. We are here to help make finding the information an effortless task. On our website you will find links to our Tuesday Envelope Inserts, Classroom Teacher Pages, Lunch Menus, SCRIP Information, the Principal Weekly Update, and so much more. We invite you to explore our site a bit and hopefully make your life a little easier. Click on the picture of the computer to link to the school website.

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina
Pray, Hope, Don't Worry

Dear SBS Families,

We are slowly getting into the routine of the new school year. Some of our little ones have a harder time than others. As adults, we know the role that anxiety and stress play on our moods, interactions with others and our decision making. For young children, it can be challenging to name these complex emotions and to then make good decisions about handling interactions and decisions related to these emotions. It takes about 5-6 weeks to get everyone use to new routines. At school, we work diligently to use our PBIS, CHAMPS and ZONES programs to create a positive environment that is as free from stress as possible.

As a parent, you may find that your child struggles with big transitions. These can include the coming of a holiday break, returning from a holiday break, long weekends, changes at home, late nights, early mornings, illnesses, conflicts at home/school, etc. We can see changes in behaviors at school during these times. I encourage you to be in communication with your classroom teacher's to let him/her know that there might be a change in your child's demeanor because of something at home. This information is tremendously helpful for us!

We work to redirect, remind, reteach when students are challenged with handling stressful situations. Sometimes, we will send an FYI or Referral home with the student (or I will send it to you directly via email). FYI's are meant to document behaviors as part of the Menu of Corrections. Most of the time students who receive an FYI have had a challenging day and their reactions or actions did not follow expected behaviors for the situation.  Each classroom teacher has a Menu of Corrections which they go through before an FYI is written.  An FYI is simply that, a document that states For Your Information.

The specifics of FYI's and Referrals can be found in the Planner/Calendar that came home at the beginning of the school year.  It is always my goal to be as compassionate,  thoughtful and proactive as possible. Sometimes we need your help and that is one of the reasons for the communication home.

We need to be partners with you. Thank you for reading this and for working with us here at school. We know how blessed we are to work with your children!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Blahnik
