5:00 PM - Everything You Want to Know about SCRIP, By Ann Selk- School Library

There will be three equal presentations presented by all teachers at the times listed above. Presentations will begin promptly at 4:00, 4:20 and 4:40 pm. Each presentation will last no longer than 15 minutes and include a 5 minute transition time.  Middle School Teachers will be presenting together in one location and will follow this same schedule of providing their presentation three times.

We realize that you may have your children with you due to the timing of this event. We are unable to offer babysitting during at this time and we do ask that if you bring your children that they come with you to the presentations and do not run unsupervised through the building. Thank you for your help with this!
Dear SBS Families,

We are back in full swing - officially! I hope your long weekend was restful and full of beautiful weather and family activities.
Mrs. Swanson has taken the time to put our school's master calendar on our school website. If you ever need to chech what is happening in a pinch, please stop by our website to take a look:

Sept. 4th - Back to School Night
After five years of trying a variety of ways to encourage family participation, we are going to try having this event on a Wednesday, before the start of Fall Religious Education. Please take a look at the advertisement at the top of this newsletter for details. This evening is more about the logistics of the school year, special events in the classroom, field trips and special requests from teachers. If you are unable to attend, please reach out to your classroom teacher who may have something to send you in writing. With the schedule the way it is, families will have the opportunity to attend presentations by three different classrooms.

Sept. 6th - School Photo Orders Due to Main Office
Please return school photo order forms to the main office with payment by this Friday, September 6th.

Sept. 6th - First Mass of the 19-20 School Year! Families are welcome to join us at 8:45 am in the church. Please be aware that your presence may be hard for your little one. We really encourage families to allow their children to get used to sitting with their classroom teachers during Mass, but we completely understand if you would like them to sit with you!

Sept. 9th - Hearing and Vision Screening for Select Grades.
Fall MAPS Testing Begins.
This testing allows us to benchmark each student's growth and track their progress throughout the year.

Sept. 12th and 13th - 6th Grade Students Go to Camp Tekawitha for Two Days! All 6th-grade students are asked to attend this unbelievable bonding opportunity with their classmates and homeroom teachers. Ms. VanDyke traditionally organizes the details for this trip and we usually give an overview of the middle school camp program during Back to School Night. Please look for important information about this opportunity to come home something this week.  (This event is no additional cost to families and has already been included in the Student Activity Fee as a part of your tuition payments.)

The Student/Parent Handbook for this school year can be found on the inside cover of the St. Bernard Catholic School Calendar/Planner that was sent home with each family.
Social-Emotional Learning, also known as SEL, is the latest buzzword in education. What is not new, however, is the presence of SEL in Catholic Education. It is validating however, to see that the larger educational community is seeing the value of the value-add of Social and Emotional Learning within the educational experience.
When we say we "educate the whole child," we are including everything from the inside out. Consider that Christ and the soul of each child is the core value in which everything else within the educational experience is an extension of the core and radiates elements from within.
Because there is so much access to SEL materials now, it is easy to find ways to support our children in these areas at home, and vice versa. To help this two-way conversation from home to school and school to home, I will be adding new materials to this corner each week. I will do my best to locate free resources that are in alignment with our Catholic faith.
This week I am passing on this great resource, Big Life Journal Printable Kits, which include Weekly Friday Freebies as well as materials for purchase. Most of the materials are designed to facilitate reflection and conversation with our children as they struggle with life's inevitable challenges. These are so good that I have passed them on to parents who are in need of resources for their children.
I hope you enjoy these!
In Christ, Mrs. Blahnik
