October 13th, 2019

Dear SBS Families,
Did you know that we have a new program organized by our Reading Intervention Team called Bears & Cubs? The kindergarten students are the Cubs and the middle school National Junior Honor Society Students are the Bears.

"Our Bears & Cubs Program teams up middle school students with kindergarten students to provide an opportunity to practice letter names and sounds through games and activities. The students will meet together 2 times each week for about 20 minutes."

(Sometimes you just need a lift. The Bears and Cubs program is designed to do just that!)

This program is a product of our PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings which are held once per week at the time and day of the PLC's choosing. I look forward to sharing more great outcomes from this new program and others as our PLC's take root.

October 22nd and 24th are MANDATORY Parent/Teacher Conferences. PK-5th will sign up for scheduled time slot. Middle school will be first come first serve in the gym. Translators are provided to anyone who needs or would like one. Conferences have been scheduled based on your preference sheets. You will receive a confirmation of your dates/times in the next week or two.

A BIG BEAR WELCOME!
Please welcome Mrs. Sully Camacho, mom to 1st grader, Ian Benitez. She is our newest support staff member here at SBS. With a BA in Early Childhood Education and a bilingual speaker, she makes the perfect addition to our Primary (Grades 1 and 2) team of supports. Mrs. Camacho will be on campus 25 hours per week working directly with students, teachers and outside recess. Please be sure to say hello and welcome her when you get the chance.

Enjoy this lovely Fall weather!
In Christ,
Mrs. Blahnik

Trunk or Treat Timeline
~1:00 pm - 1:30 pm arrival and trunk set up Please do not arrive before 1:00 pm to set up your trunk.
~1:30 pm - 2:00 pm trunk treating
~2:00 pm - 2:30 pm games
~2:30 pm - 3:00 pm costume/trunk awards and takedown

What is a Trunk or Treat?

It’s a fun, safe way organized mostly by a school or church, where trick or treating is done from parked car to parked car in the parking lot. The best part is parents decorate their trunks to match a theme if they would like. You can go ALL OUT or keep it simple. The children then walk around and trick or treat in daylight from car to car. We will have awards for the best trunk and best costume.

Who Is This Designed For?
This activity is designated for preschool through 5th grade. We are keeping this a “G” rated event so that goes for costumes and cars. Basically, costumes and trunks must be family-friendly and may not be offensive, objectionable or violent.

GO BEARS!

NOTHING NEW HERE THIS WEEK.....

GLASS WATER BOTTLES!
Please leave your child's glass water bottle at home. We have had several breaks this year already. These are nice water bottles and we would hate for them to break or hurt another student. Thank you!
