The Week in Winnipeg

August 14th to 20th, 2022

Hey there 856,

Matthew is still on annual, so your stuck with me for another week!
Next week might be a stretch- I begin my first of three weeks annual and Matthew will be off as well. You might have to wait until September for the next Week in Winnipeg (Which is only two weeks away!!!)

Southwest Restructure
With the builds completed and bidding underway, the local has been consulting with management on designating which routes will get the A and which routes will get the B status for their respective case.
An “A” route for (just to recap) is a route that will sort/tie-out and deliver as normal. The “B” route will come in and grab their packets, parcels and manual mail from the previous day, deliver their route, and then sort and tie out their manual mail when they get back to the depot.
This will be the same for Wave 1 and 2 under the newly adopted “Deerfoot Model”.
The criteria varies as to what constitutes an A versus a B. Does the route have a large business portion to be delivered. Is it primarily houses or apartments. Is there a large CMB portion of houses to be delivered. Finally, the end of day duties that are scheduled after delivery (SLB, RPO, pick-ups etc.). All the parts combined have their own time values and have to be taken into consideration when determining what start time a certain route will have.
The other big picture to look at is the number of cases that are to be remaining in the depot (remember the goal is more floor space). A final tally of which routes will remain as A and which ones will be B are being maintained at the same time.
Bidding for SW3 should commence this week and with final consultation for SW1 (Charleswood) to be held after the rebuild (eyeroll) ends on September 2nd.

Other Restructure News
Coming soon to a depot near you…volume counts! The corporation has given the local notice of upcoming restructures to take place in other depots across the city.

 St. Vital depot (out of downtown) will undergo a restructure with the volume
count starting in January of 2023 and an implementation date of May 2023
 Northeast 4 and 5 will undergo restructures with volume counts in April and May of 2023 and an implementation date of September 2023
 Finally, Depots G and R will both be restructured with volume counts in October 2023 and implementation dates for May 2024

Educationals
Applications for Facilitator Level 1 and 2 close on Friday, August 19 th and will be forwarded to the region. Applications are still being accepted for Basic Steward, Updating Routes/ Basic LCRMS, and Solidarity Skills 1. Applications must be at the region by September 16 th and can be dropped off at the local or e-mailed to education@cupwwpg.ca.
The region is also hosting a one day “Pension Whiz” seminar via Zoom on September 26th. Applications should be sent in by September 12th to receive a link. (We should all know how Zoom works now right?!?)
The Winnipeg Local also hosted a Taking Back Our Workfloor course on August 17th at the Viscount. I highly recommend anyone still reading this to get your name on the
list for the next training class. If you’re not sure if it’s for you ask someone who has taken it. Even if you’re not a shop steward or active with the local- put your name in.

Take care everyone,
Cam Fortier
