Governor Ducey Writes Letter of Support for San Luis I Modernization

Governor Doug Ducey wrote to the Arizona congressional delegation to support the full funding request of $248.3 million for the modernization of the San Luis I port of entry. 

"While I am pleased to see that the project is included in the 2020 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act out of the House, it is imperative that this project is included in the final budget resolution."

Mayor Sanchez Joins Border Mayors in Signing Letter of Support for USMCA

Mayor Gerardo Sanchez participated in the United States-Mexico Border Mayors’ Summit in San Diego, California. He joined 13 border Mayors in signing a resolution in support of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

The Mayor also joined the Association in signing a resolution requesting that US Congress authorize and fully fund the North American Development Bank.

Vice Mayor Cruz Presents to Governors at AMC Summit

Vice Mayor Maria Cruz presents on behalf of Arizona and the Transportation, Infrastructure, and Ports Committee to Governor Doug Ducey and Governor Claudia Pavlovich during the Arizona-Mexico Commission Summit. 

The Vice Mayor highlighted key aspects of the three principal port of entry projects, including San Luis I in San Luis, DeConcini in Nogales, and the Two-Port Solution in Douglas. She thanked both Governors and the Arizona congressional delegation for their unanimous support behind modernizing San Luis I.

US - Mexico Binational Bridges and Border Crossings Meeting

Taking advantage of the participation by key federal agencies from both countries, the AMC’s Transportation, Infrastructure and Ports Committee worked with the US Department of State and its Mexican counterpart, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to convert the committee meeting to be the public portion of the US-Mexico Binational Bridges and Border Crossings meeting. This offered the opportunity for the Arizona-Sonora border communities to present their individual port of entry needs and proposed projects to key federal agencies, including the Department of State, General Services Administration, Customs and Border Protection, along with their Mexican counterparts, and representatives of the Mexican can Military and the Mexican National Guard.  

Vice Mayor Maria Cruz of the City of San Luis presented the advances on the US side for the modernization of the San Luis I port of entry and the Municipality of San Luis Rio Colorado provided an update on the Cost-Benefit Analysis currently underway on the construction of a vehicular and a pedestrian underpass that would help ease the congestion generated by Southbound traffic at San Luis. Preliminary results confirm a 75% elimination of congestion with the deployment of the underpasses.

Ducey Announces $28 million to be invested for U.S. 95

As a part of Governor Doug Ducey's $4.6 billion dollar plan to ensure Arizona's transportation system can accommodate for the fast-growing population, Arizona's 2020 Fiscal Year budget includes $28 million to widen a section of U.S. Route 95. Three miles of the highway will be increased from two lanes to five lanes, including a center turning lane.

Arizona Rural Transportation Summit

Southeastern Arizona Governments Organization (SEAGO) held the Annual Arizona Rural Transportation Summit in Tucson. During the summit, Arizona Department of Transportation Director, John Halikowski, presented on the three principal port of entry projects in Arizona including the modernization of the San Luis I port of entry. 

Another panel on the Maquiladora industry in Mexico included representation from San Luis Rio Colorado. Maquilas present numerous opportunities for investment, jobs, and economic growth in Arizona.

Representation from San Luis and the region included Vice Mayor San Luis, Maria Cruz, Mayor of Town of Wellton, Cecilia McCollough, Yuma County Supervisor, Lynne Pancrazi, Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization Executive Director, Paul Ward and others.

City of San Luis Hosts City of Douglas for Port of Entry Visit

Mayor Gerardo Sanchez, Vice Mayor Maria Cruz, Councilman Matias Rosales, City Manager Tadeo De La Hoya, Economic Development Manager Jenny Torres, and Public Information Officer Francia Alonso participated in a meeting with a City of Douglas Delegation to discuss economic development initiatives and best practices spurred by the opportunities ports of entry create. 

City officials also accompanied the delegation for a port of entry tour and briefing hosted by Customs and Border Protection. 

 

San Luis Discussed at Council of State Governments West in Mexico City


09/20/2019

Ramirez Advisors Inter-National presented before the Council State Governments West on the principal port of entry projects along the Arizona-Mexico border, including the San Luis I modernization project. The panel included Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations, San Diego, Customs and Border Protection and Victor De Leon, Branch Chief, Customs and Border Protection. 

The CSG West meeting included participation from 27 state legislators from the United States and Mexico, including 10 from Arizona and Sonora.
