Team MBYC News & Upcoming Events

O'Pen Skiff North Americans
Charleston, South Carolina

Six MBYC Junior Sailors got to experience a whole different adventure this past weekend at the O'Pen Skiff North American Championships in Charleston, South Carolina. We are fortunate to have a club owned fleet of boats that our sailors were able to train in over the last few months. Our team went over there with lots of practice, the right sailing gear and after a "local knowledge" talk with Coach Ryan (who sailed at the College of Charleston), they looked more prepared than any other team out there...and it showed in the results!! The kids also made new friends from across the country and with MBYC hosting this event next year, it'll be that much more fun to get to see everyone again!

Great job to all our Sailors who represented the Juniors in the Parade of Fleets at the Opening Day Ceremonies: Paige & Carlin (C420), Owen & Efe (CFJ), Alex K (Laser), Jett (O'Pen Skiff), Alex M (Sabot).

And well done to our Junior Board Members in attendance: Co-Commodore's Oakley & Garrett, Vice Commodore Ben, Rear Commodore Allie, Secretary Sarah, Social Chair Paige, C420 Captain Carlin, CFJ Captain Patrick, Laser Captain Efe, Angling Captain Colin.

Beginning/Intermediate

CFJ & C420 Racing Clinic

CFJ NATIONALS are at MBYC and C420 NATIONALS are at ABYC THIS SUMMER and will have full Team MBYC support. NOW is the time to find a partner and start training!!

Whether you plan on sailing Nationals or not, this training day is also a great way to prepare for the next SDAYC Doublehanded Luff-In, May 22nd at MBYC. Luff-Ins are the PERFECT entry level racing opportunity for both CFJs and C420s.

2022 Mom's Day Regatta

Debbie Wright Memorial
Saturday, May 7th at MBYC

This regatta is meant to get Moms on the water with their kids for a fun day of racing right in Chicken Cove. Kids skipper, Moms crew. Moms with multiple kid sailors can switch off as they please, or go 3 up if you like!

Moms have supported their sailors from the docks for years and we want them to experience the thrill of racing in a fun, supportive atmosphere. Moms - no experience neccessary. Kids - C2 fleet and up racers. We'll have a brief land demo for our Moms to cover the basics.

There'll be mimosas, chocolates, strawberries and more on land for your enjoyment between races! Ask anyone who was at our past events, this is a day you'll remember:)

"Littles" for kid skippers in Sabot C2+ or Middle School age.
"Bigs" for kid skippers in high school.
"College+" for "kid" skippers in college and beyond.
For Moms with multiple skippers, their boat will be scored in the division corresponding with their oldest child.
Boat are provided.
Sail #s will be assigned on the day of the event.
Awards to top 5 Moms in "littles" fleet, top 3 in "bigs" fleet and the winner of the "college+" boat.
Top MBYC mom/kid teams in each division will go on the "Debbie Wright Memorial" Perpetual.
