Greater Greater Washington Endorses Erin for ANC 4B02.

Greater Greater Washington says: "Immediately south is 4B02, and here we endorse Erin Palmer over incumbent Tanya Topolewski. Palmer offers thoughtful, detailed responses. She is a strong advocate of density around transit, and as a 'lifelong non-driver who is intimately familiar with the challenges of getting around DC' she will a strong advocate for improvements for transit users and pedestrians. About the Takoma Metro station development she says, 'creating additional housing options for families and more affordable units by Metro addresses our city’s growing housing needs while increasing equitable access to public transportation and reducing congestion and pollution.'

Palmer wants to take a data-driven approach to contentious issues like removing parking for bus or bike improvements. She seems supportive of these kinds of changes, but also recognizes the backlash they can engender. Overall, Palmer clearly has thought a lot about these issues, is principled and willing to stick her neck out for what she thinks is right, but is also very focused on having 'honest discussions' with neighbors and building consensus. . . .

. . . 4B has had many internal struggles on the ANC these last few years, something Topolewski discusses in her questionnaire and seems fairly involved in. She even spends one section of her questionnaire outlining her grievances with her colleagues. Both Palmer and Topolewski look good on many of our core issues, but we’re excited about the opportunity Palmer brings to help ease some tensions on the ANC."

In addition to Greater Greater Washington, I have been endorsed by the following individuals:

Read up on the ANC 4B October Meeting.
Next ANC 4B Meeting - Monday, November 26, 7 pm, 4th District Police Station

ANC 4B's October Meeting included lengthy community comments, a grant application from a Boy Scout looking to build free little libraries throughout ANC 4B, and more discussion on solar panels within the Takoma Historic District.
  • Community Comments: The vast majority of the meeting focused on community comments, including a brief presentation from the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities; an update from DC Public Schools on the Coolidge Modernization and the public survey for choosing a name for the new middle school; a brief presentation from Pepco about the Capital Grid Project; and concerns regarding noise at local events venue. Perhaps most notably, the ANC acknowledged that it does not keep any formal record (via minutes or other form) of community comments presented at meetings. Rather, individual Commissioners are tasked with keeping track of and responding to concerns.
  • Grant Application for Free Little Libraries Project: Manor Park neighbor, Patrick Donnelly, is working on his Eagle Scout project to build ten free little libraries throughout ANC 4B. He hopes the project will increase literacy in the community. He applied for an ANC grant of $500 and is seeking donations that will be used to purchase materials. ANC 4B unanimously approved his grant application. You can donate to his project here.
  • Solar Panels on Homes within the Takoma Historic District: Despite a heated and lengthy discussion among Commissioners over the wording in a resolution, the ANC unanimously approved a resolution supporting solar panels on the rear portion of a residence within the Takoma Historic District.
During the ANC 4B meeting, Councilmember Todd's staff noted an important development regarding the problematic intersection by the Takoma Metro. Earlier in the day, Evan Yeats (Candidate for ANC 4B01) and I shared the following details:
