FREE TAX RETURN CLINIC DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
FOR NEWCOMERS / IMMIGRANTS

Skeena Diversity's office continues to be closed, but we understand that filing taxes is a way to help you and your family to access financial support. We are following the recommendation to keep physical distance from each other. For that reason we are now offering Free Tax Return Clinic service drop-in / pick-up.
How it works: fill out the survey below, we will contact you and arrange for you you to drop the required documents. After we process them, we will contact you for pick up..

Please follow the steps below to apply:

1) Check your eligibility, if you are eligible go to the next step.
2) Fill the form: https://bit.ly/2J2Y2fe
3) Wait to be contacted.
4) Drop-off the documents as directed.
5) Pick-up your documents on the date scheduled. Bring your ID.

Eligibility criteria:
Examples of "modest income and simple tax situation":
  • Total family income of $35,000 (1 person), $45,000 (2 persons), $52,500 (5 persons)
  • international students

NOT ELIGIBLE: self-employment income; business or rental income; foreign property, etc. We are not able to help you. This is considered a complex tax situation. MESSAGE FROM BC GOVERNMENT
Physical distancing is critical for protecting each other and our communities from COVID-19. On May 4th, and every day, be sure to stay 2 lightsaber lengths apart from others when outside your home. Did you feel that things are busier around town? Stay safe, we are not out of the woods yet.

B.C. EMERGENCY BENEFIT FOR WORKERS
If you are eligible, you will receive one-time $1000 non-taxable payment
Some of the eligibility criteria:
  • Have been a resident of British Columbia on March 15, 2020
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)
  • Have been approved for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, even if you haven’t received a federal benefit payment yet
  • Be at least 15 years old on the date you apply
  • Have filed, or agree to file, a 2019 B.C. income tax return

REMOVING BARRIERS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WORKING IN ESSENTIAL SERVICES TO FIGHT COVID-19
April 22, 2020: Effective immediately international students are allowed to work more than 20 hrs/week even if their classes are in session provided they are working in an essential service or function, such as health care, critical infrastructure, or the supply of food or other critical goods.

CANADA EMERGENCY RESPONSE BENEFITS NEXT PERIOD MAY 11
If you are not receiving any other pay or benefits, you can apply for the next 4-week period of CERB May 11 - June 5

Did you know:
  • you can receive only one benefit - CERB,from Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada or Wage Subsidy Program
  • if you receive more than one benefit, you will have to repay it
  • these benefits are taxable and you will need to pay the tax next year when you file your 2020 tax return. You may want to set aside some of the money.
