Get Active in April

Spring officially arrived this year on March 20th, but April really feels like the first hint of spring. It’s a time of renewal and regrowth as the land becomes greener with buds and sprouts. Get active in April by sweeping away Winter and looking forward.


Spring Cleaning - Give your kitchen a quick sprucing up! These tasks can all be completed in less than 5 minutes & help to make your food prep space more efficient:

Clean out your fridge! We’re not saying there is anything unnaturally green in there, but everyone has some item that’s gone bad, or is beyond the best use date.

Degunk your can opener! The blades can harbor food residue and bacteria. Swipe it with an alcohol pad before washing with soap and water.

Pop your water bottle in the dishwasher! One study found 83% of sampled water bottles positive for bacteria including E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Steel, metal, or glass bottles are more easily cleaned.  

Upend the Toaster! Shake out the crumbs and remove and wash the crumb tray. Shine up a stainless steel toaster with a spot of vinegar on a dry cloth.



For the freshest produce to prepare in your clean kitchen, try growing veggies and herbs in containers. Herbs, cherry tomatoes, and strawberries can be grown in hanging baskets.

A gallon container can hold 1 pepper or cucumber plant or 2 leaf lettuce plants. All-inclusive herb kits can help you easily grow basil, chives, thyme, and parsley on your kitchen windowsill. A simple, organic, and money saving idea.


  • 1 15 oz. can of garbanzo beans

  • 1 TBSP extra virgin olive oil

  • sea salt

  • Your choice of seasonings in any combination - Try ⅛ tsp ground red pepper, ⅛ tsp ground black pepper, ⅛ tsp chili powder, ⅛ tsp garlic powder,  ⅛ tsp cumin, and/or a bit of Sriracha or Tabasco sauce.

Fuel your Active April with this healthy snack: Roasted Chickpeas


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Drain, rinse, and dry chickpeas. Patting them with paper towels to remove excess water will enable the seasonings to adhere better.

  3. Toss chickpeas in a bowl with sea salt and a tablespoon of olive oil and your choice of seasonings.

  4. Spread the chickpeas out on a baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes (or until they are golden and crispy), stirring occasionally.

  5. Enjoy!
