Winter 2021-22

Calm & Bright Greetings
To all our Students & Friends,

This picture, Harmony, connects me to the sound of snow. That sound which may be felt more through wonderment than heard with ears. The feeling of being in a gentle, kind, smiling embrace from the heavens. I hope you will also hear the magic:)

We will soon receive our first snowfall here in Rollinsford at Full Circle Studio, and we are "in-joying" the gifts of perseverance, community, laughter, acceptance, connection, and our musical and happy sanctuary space.

We are blessed to be in physical, emotional and spiritual safety, and apart from the world at large.

This place is where we create and express and immerse ourselves in music and learning; where we can expand and blossom.

The holiday duets started up a couple of weeks ago and our Tunes&Tech group is going strong and playing fast!. The occasional impromptu trios in between private lessons can be at the same time both hilarious, and deeply sacred.

Our very first MasterClass Workshop was wonderful with lots of insights being realized by observing students. A big thank you to Dee and Peg for playing and being willing guinea pigs! Our next MCW is December 5.

May the holidays bring you deep peace and harmony,

P.S. The Full Circle Newsletter is now on a seasonal schedule: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer. We'll continue to collect photos, videos, cartoons, links, music, quotes and practice tips — and you can help! Send Cayt your violin-related photos, video links, news articles, etc. so that we can share them with the entire Full Circle Violin & Fiddle Studio community.
A Special Holiday Practice Tip

My tip for the Season is to invite Inspiration into your musical world! "Practice" isn't all just technique and phrasing and scales and tunes...

Consider sinking into a cozy chair with a glass of your favorite relaxing beverage. Maybe take a moment to think of your happy, satisfying musical experiences of the past year: your own playing, a concert, video, session, practice or impromptu ensemble...

Now treat yourself to a curated concert/entertainment of your own favorites; YouTube has it all for you. My pics for classical are always Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra, Nigel Kennedy, 2Set Violin, Hilary Hahn, Anne Akiko Myers, Bach Solo Violin Partitas & Sonatas, Bach Double Violin Concerto, Barber Adagio for Strings, PDQ Bach (genius musical humor, all good, but his Beethoven 5th is superb and iconic). For trad music try Martin Hayes, Cherish the Ladies, the Chieftains, Eileen Ivers; there are so many masters out there to choose from!
Let yourself just be immersed, feeling the passion, joy, beauty, lightness of spirit, depth of soul, and from some, the happy-silly-wackiness. Welcome their inspiration into your own musical heart.

Happy holiday practicing🌲
Full Circle Master Classes
Peg cheerfully shares her musical magic during our October Master Class.
Full Circle Studio now offers a bonus Master Class Workshop (MCW) to all private lesson students.* Our next MCW will be Sunday, December 5 from 3-5pm. Contact Cayt to sign up if you haven't done so already.

MCWs are an opportunity to learn from each other in community, with 3 or 4 students volunteering each month to play – while the rest of us listen, observe, and discuss what we see and hear. Interspersed with students' playing, Cayt also offers exercises in ear training and other skills that help all of us to become better musicians. There's also time for Q&A, so bring all those questions you didn't have time to ask during your lesson.

* If you're not currently a private-lesson student at Full Circle, you can participate in MCWs with payment of a $20 fee per workshop.

Homemade Violins for Poor Kids
For nearly a decade, professional violinist Jésus Peralta has offered free group violin lessons every week to young students in Lima, Peru. When he realized that he could reach even more students if he had many more affordable violins, Peralta began making them himself – from plywood, plastic bottles and other low-tech materials. Read the story here and play the video above to see (and hear!) Peralta's "bottlephone violin."
