Casting Call!
Will you be in the NYC September 23,24 or 25? Do you have a few hours to spare? I am doing a photo shoot and need extras. We are looking for all types of people. No restrictions. I just need a photo (headshot or 3/4) with your age, email, phone number, IG (optional) and preferred date and time. I will forward your info to my casting director. If you are selected you will be invited to see something before anyone else gets to see it. It's big. It's cool. Email me direct at noah.kalina@gmail.com with the subject line "Casting".
We'll be notifying people on or around the 18th if we'd like you to come in. Hope to see you there.

Sunflowers are a top 10 flower of mine (probably #9). When I saw that Hudson Hemp had a 70 acres of them in bloom I had to drive over.

While I was taking photos I couldn't get Sunflower by Post Malone out of my head. Everyone said Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse was amazing. TBH I couldn't get into it. Anyway, Sunflowers surely can't just be the muse of Posty. Are sunflowers cool? Who else has written a song called "Sunflower"?

"I like to be quiet and play guitar and just chill"
-Post Malone

I bet you didn't know Lenny Kravitz liked Sunflowers and did a song with Drake!
The song is basically about how much Kravitz loves his girlfriend despite "a world that's crumbling, all around us every day".  But then Drake comes on and talk rap sings about how he's not really sure he likes his girlfriend, implies he wants to have a threesome, thinks about his old girlfriend and then says "but you make me feel good, cause you love me for me and you love me for you".

Kravitz told Billboard Magazine "I got on the phone with Drake before he had even heard the track and he said, "yeah, I'll do it. I'm a fan and I love your work and I would love to be on it.' So that was cool".

Was it?

"My dream is to become a farmer. Just a Bohemian guy pulling up his own sweet potatoes for dinner."
-Lenny Kravitz

Have you heard this deep cut from Mariah Carey's album Charmbracelet? I bet you haven't! Mariah Carey is pure existential music. Put on a track and you'll question everything. How did this happen? Who is responsible for this? What is going on? Why am I here?!

Did you know I went to the same high school as Mariah Carey? Of course you didn't know that, how would you have known that? Anyway, she's the most famous alumni from Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, NY. I used to be listed as a notable alumni but they seem to have taken me off the wikipedia page. I wonder why...

"There is a light at the end of the tunnel... hopefully it's not a freight train!"
-Mariah Carey

If you listen to this Sinatra track he sings "She's a sunflower from the Sunflower State". Oh damn. I forgot Kansas was the "Sunflower state". Check out how absolutely terrible the Kansas state flag is!

Good time to re-watch this video on flags that I tell everyone to watch and I know you still haven't watched it even though I told you to watch it!

"The big lesson in life, baby, is never be scared of anyone or anything"
-Frank Sinatra

This song is actually great. I was really into "Things We Lost in the Fire" when I was in college. I almost totally forgot about this band. Listening to this track brings back so many memories.

I added this track to my "playlist for the end of the world". Follow along for tracks that I think go well to the current collapse of civilization as we know it.

"The few times when we’ve been political, I’m always really surprised by how many people are like, [scrunches face, adopts mock-important voice], “Don’t! No! You can’t mix that with music!” I’m like, “Fuck you, man.”"
-Alan Sparkhawk

Special thanks to Freya and Melany at Hudson Hemp for the farm tour.

Listen: Sam Harris Podcast - #166 The Plague Years - Healthcare can not rely on free market forces. It is our demise. Please explain this to your shitty Republican relatives.

Read: The Uninhabitable Earth Life After Warming by David Wallace-Wells - On Saturday at the farmers market, Laura Silverman of The Outside Institute recommended this book to me. I was talking about The Plague Years and she was basically like... you think a super bug pandemic that will kill millions of people are bad? Read this shit. I have spent my entire Sunday reading (lol j/k listening on tape) and holy shit. Cancel whatever you were going to do today and start prepping. We're fucked!

Watch: NIN: "I'm Afraid of Americans" live from on stage in Toronto, 6.02.09

Have an amazing week!
-Noah
