GFWC Florida Juniors News
April 2019
From the Florida Director of Junior Clubs
We have so much to celebrate!

To say that the Director's Project, GFWC Florida Book Heroes, has been successful in the first year is a bit of an understatement. Here’s what you did – what we all did together:
31,796 books donated
234 Projects
Over 6,500 Volunteer Hours
$7,695 dollars donated
Nearly $55,000 of In Kind Donations

You may remember my initial goal was 20,000 books over 2 years, and you crushed that goal and half again in less than a year.

In Juniors’ Special Program, as a state we reported 137 projects, 1,198 Volunteer Hours – over $18,000 raised and over $3500 of in kind donations. We supported our GFWC Partners March of Dimes and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

And the 19 Junior clubs that reported in 2018 logged grand totals of 1,641 projects, 36,297 hours, over $78,000 in cash donations and nearly $83,000 of in kind donations. These amazing numbers represent love and passion and effort and accomplishment in the service of others. We will celebrate these accomplishment this weekend at GFWC Florida Annual Convention!

I do know that not everyone can make it to Convention. We celebrate every single Junior member, every club and every project and volunteer hour! If your club is not reporting, how can we help you get started?

So proud to represent you and to serve you  --

We women don't really need a reason to meet up and spend time together. Just need a break from the kids? Let's meet up! Rough work week? Let's meet up! Needing a bit of vent time? Let's get together and chat! Just miss the energy we have together? Let's meet up! A reason isn't really a determining factor when it comes to gathering in one place. Further, if we want to do something to make a difference in the community, we just do it. It's just the way we were built.

This was even more so back in the 19th century. Mostly, women rallied for their causes using the platforms their families afforded them. Then, on February 23, 1895, the amazing Miss Penelope Borden Hamilton decided to heat up the reactivated Village Improvement Association in Green Cove Springs and invited other organizations to attend. This "meeting" is marked as the creation of the Florida Federation of Woman's Clubs (FFWC).

In 2008, the 1895 Society was established with the goal to "Preserve our Past and Ensure our Future.” We have the 1895 Society to remind us of the historical significance of that act of convening. The purpose of this amazing society is to preserve and maintain the GFWC/FFWC legacy and headquarters building in Lakeland. It is because of the generous contributions of our members through the 1895 Society that the headquarters building is able to stand as beautiful as it does today. When you join the 1895 Society, you are saying that you are ready to embrace the future of the GFWC/FFWC by contributing to a legacy. Want to join me in preserving what we love? Of course you do! When you come to convention, you can visit the 1895 Society table that will have me or Rebecca Castillo sitting ready to assist you with joining. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at bhaadhaq@gmail.com. Have an awesome month and I will see you at convention!
