"We don't have a lot of folks who are really willing to step back and allow people of color to lead. We have a lot of talk about, 'oh, let's bring everyone to the table.' But we have to remember that that table was made by white folks to succeed. And so we have to dismantle those tables.
This is not my idea, but we have to dismantle those tables and build sweat lodges, and bring people into those spaces, right? Because every time I go to a policy-making table, I have to remember that this was not set up for me to succeed."
