Library Launches Telehealth Program

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded $25,000 in funding to the Hillsboro City Library under its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grants Program. With these funds, the Hillsboro City Library will provide community members with access to equipment for telehealth services beginning August 1, 2022. Patrons will have access to private rooms in the library where they can have virtual appointments with their doctor, mental health provider, or other medical professionals.

The Virtual Health Rooms are equipped with desktop computers, webcams, lighting, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, thermometers, scales, and air purifiers. The Telehealth Grant program also enabled the library to purchase a number of digital and physical reading materials on an array of consumer and mental health topics, for all ages, which can be viewed online at
This project is just one of 40 made possible this year by approximately $1.8 million in new grant funding from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the provisions of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). TSLAC ARPA grants make it possible for libraries to expand their services and resources and help provide equitable access to information and technology through specific grant programs. The Texas Telehealth Grant Program, which the Hillsboro City Library was awarded, provides libraries with the equipment and resources needed to facilitate a telehealth project at their facilities.
For more information on the Telehealth Program, and other ongoing programs at the Hillsboro City Library, contact library staff at (254) 582-7385 or visit the library in person at 118 South Waco Street. The Hillsboro City Library can be found online at
