The Latino Podcast Listener Report

We're thrilled to be founding partners with Edison Research for the third annual Latino Podcast Listener Report, along with Adonde Media, Libsyn, PRX, and SXM Media.
The Latino Podcast Listener Report tracks emerging habits and preferences among listeners, including reasons Latino listeners choose video podcasts, actions they take because of podcast ads, and how they feel about ads on Spanish podcasts. This important study provides valuable insight and key data on this underserved audience.
Join us on August 16 at 2pm ET for a live webinar revealing this year's latest findings, presented by Gabriel Soto, Senior Director of Research at Edison Research, and Elsie Escobar, She Podcasts Co-founder and Community Manager at Libsyn. Register for free, and check out last year's study.
Can't make it? A recording of the webinar will be available after, and English and Spanish versions of the presentation will be available for download. Follow Edison Research on Twitter for updates.

What We're Listening To

From Us: "I'm bullish on the ability [of ballot initiatives] to break through the gridlock that plagues so much of politics, and their potential to bypass our failure of imagination and deliver a solution to what's wrong with democracy." Joined by leading experts of direct democracy and advocacy, in the final episode of the season, Jenna Spinelle of When The People Decide explores the future of ballot initiatives and how they can transform American politics.
From Other Folks: Missing Pages is an all-new investigative podcast from The Podglomerate, hosted by world-renowned literary critic and publishing insider Bethanne Patrick. Its eight-episode debut season uncovers the power struggles, mistaken identities, and unfathomable bad behavior within the book publishing industry, revealing the real story that was unfit for print. These include a handsome, charming, and rich author who lied about everything, a charity founder with too much money and too little sense, and a memoirist who didn’t actually exist. Listen to the trailer and follow/subscribe so you don't miss the first episode on August 15.

Overheard on Podcasting, Seriously Live

This week we welcome Joni Deutsch, vice president of marketing and audience development at The Podglomerate, to discuss why building relationships in the podcast industry is important and how to do it. Some takeaways are:

  • Make connections online, in-person, by joining communities, or by reaching out through email. A simple hello and acknowledgement of someone's work can be the first step in building a relationship.
  • Community and collaboration helps the industry grow as a whole. "We have all these folks in podcasting that represent different parts of the industry. It's [about] building relationships that are not just onesided. They can be beneficial, and we can all work together so everyone can grow," Joni notes.
  • If available, check the attendee list prior to going to any conferences or events, and research the people you intend to network with. Make contact prior to the event so you can arrange a meeting.
  • "If you're at a point in your career where you're looking get to the next level, and you're not really sure how, pull up those networks, those relationships, those questions that you've had over the years for other people and get in touch with them. Don't be afraid to reach out," Joni says.
  • Speaking engagements at industry conferences and events are a great way to make connections and meet other folks in the industry. Aside from offering a chance to showcase your skills and your work, it also helps you develop speaking skills, grow your influence, and further establish yourself in the industry.
