70 Million Returns for the Final Season!

The Podcasting, Seriously Awards FundThe Peabody-nominated open-source criminal justice solutions podcast airs the first episode of its fifth and final season on Monday, October 24!
The 70 Million narrative documentary podcast from LWC Studios has chronicled jail reform and the effects of the criminal justice system for five years–sharing personal stories and organizational efforts of real people across the nation. Season five will examine the inequalities and inadequacies of the justice system through the lens of plea bargaining, grand juries, traffic fines, vehicle impoundment, the arrest of school children and expose the shortcomings of local, state, and federal systems that continue to exploit the people they're promising to protect.

Since its launch in 2018, the show has been underwritten by the Safety & Justice Challenge at the MacArthur Foundation.

What We're Listening To

From Us: In the newest episode of How to Talk to [High Achievers] about Anything "Managing the Emotional Risk of Pitching Your Passion", our guest, Tech founder, Anna DeShawn shares her experience asking potential investors for support and capital to evaluate the work of BIPOC and QTPOC creatives. Our host, Stevon Lewis breaks down how we can make key decisions and talk about money confidently when a business feels personal.

From Others: Did you know that Walt Disney tried to build a massive ski resort in Sequoia National Park? It was ultimately unrealized (resulting in a landmark Supreme Court case!), and that forgotten story is uncovered in the new season of the chart-topping podcast Trail Weight. Critically acclaimed host, Andrew Steven explores how we can navigate the great outdoors, all while supporting the ecosystem in what Outside Magazine heralds as a "must-listen" podcast.
Trials and Triumphs podcast wants to hear your questions! In these intimate conversations, host Ashley Blain Featherson-Jenkins and guests discuss the trials that led to their many triumphs.
Be part of the conversation.

Overheard on Podcasting, Seriously Live

Joining us last week was Florence Barrau-Adams, an audio/video producer, editor, sound designer, and educator. She is AVID Certified Pro Tools Instructor and an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU Kanbar Institute of Film & Television. Florence shared her best tricks for how to utilize Pro Tools, like a pro.

Learn more from Florence in her upcoming webinar with Podcasting, Seriously Conversational Flow: Editing Remote Recordings on Saturday, November 19 at 1pm ET

Some takeaways from our conversation are:
  • Be organized from the very beginning! Utilize folder structures and proper naming conventions to spend less time searching and more time working.

  • Have a template–What are going to be the recurring elements? Don't waste time starting every session from scratch!

  • Pay attention to your acoustic space. Make sure that you and your guests recording spaces are properly set up–no loud alternative noises, dangly bangles, sirens in the background, or reflective large rooms.

  • Know how to use your tools, and focus on storytelling. Make the most of the time you have!
