September Family Connection

This has been a month of milestones - marking the end of the War in Afghanistan & 20 years of the War on Terror. These milestones stir many feelings that range from rage, confusion, betrayal, sadness, surprise, shock, numbness, or agreement and relief. It is a challenge to wrap your mind around two decades of constant war, especially when only a small portion of our nation engaged in the efforts to keep terror at bay. Regardless of where your thoughts are processing the events of the past month, it is critical to be aware of and unpack your emotions.  Whether you are an active leader or a SOF veteran, this task is important for you and those around you.

Special operators and all those who serve with us, don't particularly enjoy discussing or even admitting emotions - especially the hard ones. But, the truth is service impacts our physical body, our heart and mind, and the people to our left and right. Each of these are critical to continued success, high performance, and a building or keeping a solid legacy.
Unpacking the memories, thoughts, feeling will take time, listening, and friends and family. If you or a friend need help thinking through your service, please reach out to the Veterans Crisis Line, (call: 800-273-8255 and press 1 or text: 838255) or one of the resources provided below.

Our MSOF team and our partners know that it can be maddening for special operations forces, veterans, and families to find or access and pay for effective resources. It can be hard to identify what is causing stress or frustration or to decide what should come after your service is complete. Wherever you  find yourself - between pride and excitement or hedging toward anger and grief - know your service, dedication, and leadership mattered on the battlefield and continue to be critical in ongoing SOF missions and service and in your community and at home.

Over the next several months we will be pushing out many special operations-specific resources and information. Please mark your calendars and save the "virtual date" for November 9, 2021 where we will be hosting a special operations community conversation.

Please look at the resources linked below, share them with friends, and reach out if you are in need.
