1. ‘Wall of Wings’ Instagram Competition
Last Friday we unveiled the Wall of Wings in Brenton-on-Sea, the first completed interactive street art project being undertaken in conjunction with the Knysna Art Society.  From today, Friday 20 August we will be running an Instagram competition:  take a picture posing in front of the ‘Wall of Wings’, post it on Instagram and tag @visitknysna and #BrentonOnSea.  Key rings of the butterfly installation will be awarded to the first 100 on-site participants.
2. Tourist Guides ‘Expanded Skills Programme’: Opportunities Underway
For a while, we have been working towards assisting our local tourist guides in what we have termed an ‘expanded skills programme’ to develop a bouquet of offerings to beyond ‘township tours’.  Like the Knysna Art Project, we anticipate this being infinite with so many opportunities that can be developed into local tours.
  • Earlier this week, we announced that through local author, Gareth Patterson, Mawande Yengwa and Helen Persello have been given the opportunity participate in the “spirit of the wild” course that will take place this year from 28th September – 4th October 2021 at Bergplaas Nature Reserve near Graaff Reinet.  After attending this course, Gareth will then further expand their knowledge base to incorporate ‘elephant stories’.
  • Philip Caveney of the Knysna Historical Society has started his sessions with the interested guides on the historical buildings in central Knysna.
  • Yesterday we introduced the guides to the opportunities being offered by the SANParks Honorary Rangers.  These will initially include 6 tour offerings, these being the endangered Knysna Seahorses, Knysna Estuary ‘mud flats’, Knysna Heads ‘rocky shores’, Litter Clean-ups, Perdekop Trail at Harkerville and the Red Elephant Trail at Diepwalle.
Thank you to the locals who are kindly volunteering as mentors.
3. Regional Tourism Organisations (RTO) Meeting with WESGRO & DEDAT
