I hope your 2020 has been off to a thrilling start! After a longer than expected break from this e-mail, I am happy to be in front of your eyeballs once again.  It is championship season here, with college conference meets already rolling, our high school state championships beginning this week, and Y Nationals (my squad's focus meet for the end of the season) sneaking ever closer.  It is an exciting part of the year, when we get to see our swimmer reap the rewards of their hard work.  Thanks for sticking with me through another break.  I hope the wake-up swim continues to bring you value in every issue. -RW

favorite stuff from the blog
There have been so many awesome contributions from coaches since issue 51! See every post from the month of January here.
videos of the week
1. Strength Coach Brett Bartholomew has a great video on What Not to Do When Trying to Motivate "Lazy" Athletes.  Caution: this video may require you to get outside your comfort zone to critically self-evaluate.

2. If you have deep water, this exercise could help your athletes learn how to stay tightly tucked for the turns:
coaching inspiration

“As to methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
I can think of no statement more universally true in the coaching profession than this one. Figure out your principles, and then experiment with your methods.  -RW
