"It may not be your fault, but it can still be your responsibility."
Much of this week’s swimming news here in the U.S. is about the game of musical chairs that is collegiate coaching.  There are top-notch schools scrambling for a coach, coaches virtually swapping jobs, and schools that seem to not care whether they hire a coach anytime soon (looking at you, UNC).
It's one of the realities of our field -- coaches tend to have many stops over the course of their careers. I am on my 4th head coaching job at the club level, with two of those jobs also tied to Division I college programs.  If it is up to me, I will be staying at my current team for a long time to come. The criteria that used to be important to me (an elite group of athletes, a clear path to the next job, a role that will help me earn the respect of my coaching colleagues), just are not a priority anymore.  Now, I value the opportunity to do meaningful work at a club with long-term stability in a place where I love to live. I have all of those things here in Lynchburg, plus the chance to watch my own kids grow up in the program. Don't get me wrong -- I still have ambitious goals for our club and I am sometimes impatient to achieve them, but it is no longer about the next step for me. I hope that you all might find the same. - RW

swimming videos of the week
This week's theme is dryland training.  Here are a few interesting videos for your dryland consideration:

1. Tornado ball.  I made one of these for my team once -- it took us only a week to destroy it because the kids got really into the exercise.  But it was the best oblique ab workout I have ever done.

2. Skater Physio Ball 1-Leg Squats

3. Backstroke Balance and Proprioception
