1924 BOURBON BARREL AGED CABERNET SAUVIGNON $14.99     
Crafted  with  full-bodied  Cabernet  Sauvignon  aged  in Bourbon  Barrels, this liberal wine is layered with suggestions of blackberry, black currant and warm spice with notes reminiscent of Bourbon: butterscotch, brown sugar and toasted oak.

PAIRINGS
Enjoy  this  full-bodied  wine  with  hearty  sweet  or  smoky  dishes:  Savory bacon-wrapped  filet  alongside  maple  pecan  sweet  potatoes  or  grilled, pecan-smoked beef tenderloin.

WINEMAKING
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were picked at optimal ripeness based on a combination of winemaker evaluation, vineyard condition and an eye on weather. The fruit is harvested in the cool of the night and delivered to the winery to be destemmed into fermentation tanks. Once the wine is made, a portion is aged in Bourbon Barrels for more than two months.

The inaugural 2018 vintage is a wine of distinction with a unique profile owing to the seasoned Rum Barrels used in the same tradition as artisan master distillers. The portion of the wine aged in Rum Barrels imparts lovely aromas and notes of baking spice, nutmeg and delicious campfire made smores.  The balance of the wine, aged on French and American oak, offers luscious red fruit and boysenberry jam with notes of vanilla.  The structure is savory with velvety tannins and a lingering finish.

VINTAGE
The 2018 vintage could quite possibly be one of the best ever for Lodi thanks to a near perfect growing season.  Situated 100 miles directly east of the San Francisco Bay at the edge of the San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta, cool “delta breezes” provide the region with a reliable, natural air conditioning throughout the growing season. In 2018, Lodi was spared from extreme weather variations allowing uniform clusters to develop concentrated flavors and the long season brought natural acidity and rich fruit expression.

WINEMAKING
The fruit was picked based on flavor and tannin ripeness.  Upon arrival to the winery, it was destemmed and placed into fermenters and allowed to soak for 24 hours.  After a controlled warm fermentation (85F) the wine was pressed when the winemaking team considered the tannins to be in balance and at the correct level.  The base of the wine is Merlot followed by Syrah bringing the red fruit characteristics with a note of spice.  A small amount of Tempranillo and Tannat was adding to the spicy red notes and intense color.

CALIFORNIA VITICULTURE
Lodi has been grape growing since the 1850s and in most places, the soil is deep loam which is similar to the French Rhône region of Châteauneuf du Pape. Lodi is predominately a red wine growing region, with approximately two-thirds of the acreage dedicated to red varieties.  Lodi’s soils, warm days and cool nights are a natural match for varieties making a  name  in  other  parts  of  the  world.    Local  vintners  have  been  experimenting  with  planting  Spanish  varieties  like Tempranillo and Rhône varieties like Tannat capturing critical attention from top wine writers and the hearts of wine enthusiasts across the country.
