Hello <<First Name>>
How has your week gone? Mine has been great. I am knee-deep in academic reading but it feels good to be a student again. Looking at a dense journal article that requires you to read each paragraph several times, and check definitions of over half the words is a useful reminder of how some of our students can feel, isn’t it!?
This Week’s Podcast
This week’s podcast explores public speaking. While teaching is, of course, far more than just “speaking”, I think understanding the skill of public speaking can enhance presentation in the classroom. Do let me know what you think:
Public Speaking for Teachers and Trainers (The Podcast Edition)
This is the audio version of a blog post I wrote some time ago - I felt it needed revisiting.
On top of my heavy journal consumption this week, I’ve just made a start reading Tom Sherington’s book “The Learning Rainforest: Great Teaching in Real Classrooms”. It’s definitely worth a look.
Embarrassingly, I purchased it by accident. Twitter told me Tom had a new book out with a nice green cover including a funky rainforest metaphor… Actually, his NEW book is “The Learning Rainforest Fieldbook”, a follow up to “The Learning Rainforest: Great Teaching in Real Classrooms”. Still, I love a good rainforest metaphor, so I’m perfectly happy starting with the first book!
Just a little housekeeping (and the reason today’s email is short and sweet) - I am on half term next week and planning some essential self-care. There will be no podcast or email from me next weekend. Full service will resume the following weekend.
I'll be in touch soon; have a great fortnight.
