Hello <<First Name>>
Welcome to the Teaching Space Extra - how is your week going? I’ve started my MA studies with the Open University this week so I’m having a… well… “significant” week! It feels GOOD to be a student again.
This Week’s Podcast
This week’s podcast is a subject close to my heart:
Seven Ways to Simplify Your Life Outside Work
In this episode I share seven of my favourite life simplification tips, from batching to delegating and automating. Enjoy.
Fewer Things Better
Last week I mentioned Angela Watson’s new book “Fewer Things Better” (which I have started and it is ace). I didn’t realise at the time, but Angela has a Facebook bookclub which is worth checking out if you plan to read the book.
Ah… it’s all about the books at the moment. Today, I’ve been collaborating with my College librarian, Rachel. We set up mini professional development libraries in our three campus staff rooms.
We are taking the library to the teachers!
We have carefully curated a selection of five books about teaching and learning and made a display in each staff room. Teachers can borrow the books directly from the display or just enjoy a flick through over coffee.
Is this something you could do in your organisation?
Notion for Teachers and Students
If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while you would have heard me mention an organisational tool called Notion. Notion recently announced it is now free for teachers and students, so there has never been a better time to investigate it.
Podcasting, Public Speaking and Sketchnoting
And finally, last week I had the pleasure of delivering a talk about podcasting at the Digital Greenhouse. The talk went down well and I thoroughly enjoyed giving it. The highlight was that an attendee, Jenny, sketchnoted my talk! As a budding sketchnoter myself, this was such a treat. Here’s a photo of Jenny’s excellent work:
I’m feeling very inspired by the combination of public speaking, sketchnoting and learning - I might have a project forming in my mind. Watch this space.
Right, that’s all from me today - have a great week.
