Welcome to this week’s issue of The Teaching Space Extra. I hope your week has gone well. I have experienced a major planning glitch this week (keeping it real here!) in that ALL THE ASSIGNMENTS seem to be coming in at the same time. As you can imagine, I have been using every single productivity strategy in my toolkit; the most useful being The Pomodoro Technique. I’m also experimenting with what I listen to when marking; I’m currently on the Monument Valley soundtrack as recommended by Shawn Blanc of The Sweet Setup (one of my favourite Apple tech blogs). What do you listen to when you mark?

Imposter Syndrome

Over the past few days, I’ve been procrastinating about… ahem… I mean 'planning to start' the first assignment for my Master’s degree. It’s not a big assignment in terms of word count - just 1500 words. I can write emails longer than that! It’s that I have to pack so much in that tiny word count. Every word counts. And then there are all the imposter syndrome feelings. What if I am not clever enough to write this? What if I misunderstand the question? What if I fail?

While it all feels terribly uncomfortable, it is a reminder of how our students can feel, isn’t it?

Over the past week, I think I might have been more student than teacher, on reflection, as I also underwent the final part of my Advanced Teacher Status assessment. It was a viva - have you ever been on the receiving end of a viva interview? They’re tough! I’m pleased to say I passed and now have Advanced Teacher Status and Chartered Teacher Status. Whoop! If you are in FE or training, I recommend you check out the process - it’s worth doing: ATS. Also, feel free to drop me a line if you want to talk about what's involved.
