A THROWBACK TO LAST YEAR'S PROJECTS
With the new academic year starting, we invite everyone to join any of the ManSEDS projects: Balloon, Rocket and the EU and UK Rovers.

Mancunian Balloonian

The balloon reached 30km of altitude and took stunning photos. We built a muon detector to study cosmic rays as well as a biology experiment to look at microbes in the upper atmosphere (above 20km). Considering the recent discovery of potential life in Venus' atmosphere, this second experiment is now especially relevant.

Rocketry Project

We started the process to acquire Level 1 rocket certification, but that had to be put on hold due to the pandemic. We designed and manufactured a large diameter rocket and we are now waiting for an opportunity to launch it in the new academic year. Last year, we also took part in the UKSEDS rocketry championship, where our team managed to achieve 4th place in the competition.

Rover Projects

At the end of the last academic year, both teams had finished their CAD schematics and were ready to start 3D printing parts. Work on the electronics and Arduino coding had also been started. This year, we are ready to pick up where things left off and take the rovers to the competitions.
LIFE WITH COVID-19
We understand first and foremost that safekeeping our society members' health is a paramount issue. Both the committee and the project teams have made a commitment to hold meetings online and to follow the government's and Manchester Students' Union's guidelines until face to face sessions and workshop access can resume.
