This monthly email is simply to keep you updated on activities, milestones, and fundraisers for the Zion Youth grades K-12.
Packets: For two Sundays a month, packets will be provided to kids to continue faith formation at home. The ones for February will be available at the in-person Sunday on February 7th. If you can't make it to this event, the packets will be available in the church office for the whole month. The materials, along with a video reading of the story and musical selections will be available on the Zion Youth Facebook page on Sunday morning.
In person: The Education committee will be hosting in-person Sunday School on the first Sunday of the month in the Fellowship Hall. One table will be provided per family group to promote physical distancing, and masks will be required. Our next in person Sunday School time will be Sunday, February 7th at 9:45 am.
WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A BLAST! Join Saundra for a story and activity from 5:30-5:50 PM in the Fellowship Hall. We’ll read a story and do an activity related to Lent/Easter before each Wednesday evening Lenten service, and we’ll finish in time for the service (and send the kids with an activity sheet to work on). Can’t make it by 5:30? No problem! Join us when you can.
Open to pre-K – 5th grade kids.
Pastor Erin will meet with fifth-graders and their parents on Sundays during March for First Communion classes. The tentative plan is to hold classes online over Zoom. We’ll gather together on March 7, 14, 21, and 28 (time is TBD).
Fifth-graders will receive their First Communion at the Maundy Thursday worship service at 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 1.
MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL
There will be a separate MailChimp being sent next week for the 7th and 8th grade confirmation students with reminders. Until then, use the button below to check out materials and deadlines for all confirmation students.
IT’S TIME TO START PLANNING! Pastor Erin and Saundra will be holding an informational meeting for those interested in attending the ELCA Youth Gathering in Minneapolis next year. Students who are eligible to attend are this year’s 7th-11th graders.
PLEASE NOTE: the dates have changed. The same information will be presented at both meetings, so please pick the one that best suits your schedule:
Sunday, February 14th at 1:00 pm on Zoom
Meeting ID: 605 225 6755
Wednesday, February 17th at 6:30 pm in person
This meeting will be held following our Ash Wednesday evening service in the Fellowship Hall.
UPDATE: The cookbooks are almost done! Thank you to those who sent us recipes to be used in our Zion cookbook. The profit from the sales of these cookbooks will be put towards defraying expenses for those attending the ELCA Youth Gathering in Summer 2022.
DO YOU HAVE A MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT?
We could use some help setting up for Kids Time or assisting the younger kids during this time. If you child is interested, let Saundra know!
Did your favorite team make the Super Bowl? Or was it a "try again next year " sort of season? Either way, show your team spirit by making a messy canvas to display proudly in your room. Join us for our Pre-Super Bowl Party, where creativity is your only limit. Don't have a favorite NFL team? We have generic football decals you can use instead. AND we'll have some snack bags for the road to really help you kick off your celebration in style.
See you on Sunday (January 31st) at 2:00 pm!
If you can't join us in person, call the church office at 225-6755, and we'll deliver a take home kit complete with instructions to make your own!
If you would like a take home kit to do this activity at home, please contact the church office at 225-6755 to make arrangements.
CROSS YOUR FINGERS! People usually don’t wish for a bunch of snow, but we are! The next time we have a good snowfall, we want to get congregational members of all ages together to go sledding. Be watching our Facebook pages and Instagram for all the details after the next significant amount of snow.
