It's been about 30 years since Hadrian beat Crispin senseless and fled. Hadrian hasn't arrived at Emesh yet, and all House Marlowe believes him dead. To make matters worse, Crispin's grandmother--the Duchess of Delos--is dying. Answering her summons, Crispin and his sister, Sabine, must travel to the capital . . . but mysterious enemies dog their tracks. With no one coming to save them, the Marlowes must take refuge with an unlikely ally: the adorator cultists who live in the mountains about Meidua. who it is said eat the flesh of men . . . .
