SUN EATER NEWSLETTER

A BUSY MONTH

I hope you're all surviving quarantine in good health and good spirits! At time of writing, North Carolina is supposed to return to some kind of normal function by May 1 (maybe allowing us back to our offices and reopening some shops). I apologize for the glut of newsletters this month, but with the release of OVERRULED and THE LESSER DEVIL there was a lot going on! But it should be back to our regularly scheduled twice-a-month emailing from here on in, and I hope I've not exhausted you all!

It's been a little rough with bookstores closed, and I'm grateful to everyone who's been reading and rereading and sending me letters. Jenna and I are doing well in all this, and I'm hard at work on BOOK FOUR. My Secret Project was put on indefinite hold until the end of this crisis, but I still hope to be able to talk about it before the end of the year.

I'm also at work reading and revising a bunch of my short stories, a couple of you have asked me to put together a collected version so you don't have to go hunting through 10 different books. It turns out I have the rights to reprint half a dozen stories right now, so I think in a couple months I'll put out an ebook release of those stories with an all new Hadrian adventure thrown in. Stay tuned for TALES OF THE SUN EATER, VOL. 1!

The good news is that DEMON IN WHITE is still on track for its July 7 release. Hopefully by then we'll be able to go back to stores and conventions (stores seem likely, conventions less so), and I'll be able to see some of you face to face!

If you haven't already, you can pre-order book 3 below!

FROM THE AUTHOR'S DESK

We have 82 days to go before the release of DEMON IN WHITE!

I finished the first chapter of BOOK FOUR yesterday. Starting out is always a little slow...I'm averaging about 1400 words a day at the moment, and my progress spreadsheet estimates I'll be finished some time in early September. (Although it's too early in the process to have really good estimates).

With every book, because I outline very thoroughly (this book's outline is about half as long as THE LESSER DEVIL), I know how many chapters the book will have and about the average length of my chapters, which allows me to extrapolate the length of the book and how many days of writing I have left. Admittedly, the margin of error is pretty high, especially early on when progress is slow and I'm finding my feet. BUT the good news is that unlike most authors, because of this I can give you really clear updates, even though the goal posts can and will shift. In a world where some series go a decade without new releases, I want to be as transparent with you all as I can, especially if something goes wrong.

BOOK FOUR:
Word Count: 4272/286000*
Chapters: 1/76
Percent Complete: 1.3%

*I expect this to drop by about 30-50K words. The first chapter was on the longer side and that's inflated projections.

All that said, I think this book will go more smoothly than DEMON IN WHITE, which was interrupted both by my buying a house and by wedding planning!

Stay healthy, my friends.

Spotlight On

Crispin's Solo Adventure

THE LESSER DEVIL

Crispin Marlowe grew up in his brother’s shadow, but Hadrian is gone, and his grandmother—the duchess of Delos—is dying.

Answering her summons, Crispin takes off on what should be a routine flight to the ducal palace from the castle at Devil’s Rest. But he is flying into a trap.

With no one coming to save him and only his sister, Sabine, and a few injured guardsmen to protect him, House Marlowe’s least famous son must make his heroic stand.

Photo Update

At 8 PM on Friday, 4/24, I'll be reading my short story "Victim of Changes" LIVE on the Baen Books Facebook page as part of a reading series I've been hosting for my employer. We've already done episodes with D.J. Butler, Larry Correia, and Steven Barnes, and plan on doing an author reading every Friday until quarantine ends!

Here's a link! Put it on your calendar and stop on by! I hope to take some Q&A after as well!
