Township Announcements
Morris County 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony - On Sunday, Sept. 8, all residents are invited to honor those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, in a ceremony hosted by the Morris County Freeholders. Guest speakers are Honor (Crowther) Fagan and Alison Crowther, the mother and sister of the late Welles Crowther. Welles Crowther was a 9/11 hero who saved lives of at least 10 workers in the towers, while wearing a red bandana over his face. He has become known as the “Man in the Red Bandana.” The ceremony takes place at 6 p.m., at the Morris County 9/11 Memorial on West Hanover Avenue in Parsippany. More details. 

Hepatitis A Exposure - There was a case of Hepatitis A exposure at a local golf club. Read an announcement from the Morris County Office of Health Management.

Flu Shot Clinic: Save the Date - On Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. and from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., the township Board of Health is hosting a Flu Clinic for adults (ages 18+). Getting an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed time at work and school, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations. Residents 65 and older are free with a Medicare card; all others are charged a $30 fee. Get more details.

Register to Vote! - This year's general election is on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The final day to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 15. Voter registration applications are available at any Municipal Clerk’s Office or other public agencies.

Ralston Playground Video - In case you missed the grand opening celebration, a video with all the highlights is now available on Mendham TV. Our local all-volunteer cable station also films all Township Committee meetings and other events. Check out Mendham TV!

Police Updates
Drive Carefully! - School is back in session. Please watch your speed when dropping off and picking up your children at the schools and along all township roadways! 

Lock It or Lose It - Remember to lock your cars when parked, and NEVER leave your keys in your car.

Cops, Kids & Cones - Look for a new September date to be announced soon!

Activities for Families & Kids

Doggy Dip at the Beach - Come on down to Brookside Beach with your pup for the first ever Doggy Dip on Saturday, Sept.14, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The fee is just $10 per dog. This event is open to all well-behaved, vaccinated dogs only please. 

Fall Concert! - The Recreation Department is sponsoring a concert on Sunday, Sept. 29. Look for more details on the
Recreation Facebook page. 

Tinkergarten Outdoor Classes - Embrace the changing season with your little ones with wonder, exploration and child-led learning with Tinkergarten. There are two age groups, both taught by a local mom. Tinkergarten Babies is for children ages 6-18 months on Friday mornings. Core Tinkergarten is for youngsters from 18 months to age 8, on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Each session is uniquely designed to help children develop core life skills, while enjoying healthy, fun and engaging experiences in the physical freedom of local, green spaces.  The curriculum inspires creativity and curiosity in both children and adults and is a great way to get outside! Register today.
Ralston Cider Mill Children's Day! - On Saturday, Sept. 14,  at 1 p.m., stop by the mill for a kid's cider pressing, activities and a presentation by children's author Pat Brisson. The costs is just $10 per family. RSVP today. The mill is located at 336 Mendham Road West.

Save the Date: Annual Apple Pressing - If you want to get a taste of local history, back to a time when applejack was more popular than water, plan to visit the cider mill on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. You can observe the once-a-year pressing on restored historic equipment, and taste delicious fresh cider! Admission is $10.

49th Annual Clambake on Sept. 7 - Don't miss one of our community's biggest events of the year! Sponsored by Brookside Engine Company #1, the Annual Family Clambake features an all-you-can eat menu, kids' activities, DJ music, a horseshoe tournament, raffles, face painting, and much more. Advance tickets are $40 for adults and children ages 13+; and $15 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free! Buy tickets online. You can also purchase tickets at the gate for $50 per adult.

The all-you-can-eat menu features:

  • Steamers & raw clam bar
  • New England & Manhattan clam chowder
  • Hamburgers, vegan burgers & hot dogs
  • Sausage & peppers

  • Corn on the cob, cole slaw & watermelon

Library Update - After the recent flooding, repairs are commencing, and the goal is to re-open most of the library by the end of September! Meanwhile, hours have been expanded to open two evenings a week.

The library is exploring some interior renovations to "refresh" the facility. Please look for a campaign outreach coming very soon! You can also support the library in the meantime at Shredder Day on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8:30 a.m. - Noon. Get more details.
Cultural & Historical Happenings

Harmony Brookside Reception - Our community's only retailer invites all residents to a gallery reception on Friday, Sept. 6, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. The new exhibit, "Storm & Calm" features timeless and evocative work by Justin Brubaker. Enjoy his wonderful work, and restore your inner balance! Harmony Brookside will be open during the Clambake on Saturday, Sept. 7. Look for the Harmony Brookside "Human Coupon," and save! 

Nature & Outdoor Activities 
Full Moon Hike - On Sunday, Sept. 15, enjoy a nighttime hike. Meet at the Nature Center at 8 p.m., for a two-mile trek through the woods until about 9:30 p.m. The member fee is $10 per person or $30 per family. The non-member fee is $15 for individuals or $45 per non-member family. Register online.

Environmental Book Club - Members of Schiff gather monthly at the Nature Center to discuss a previously selected environmentally focused book. New members are always welcome! This month's meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and the book is "The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea" by Jack Davis. Register online.
Volunteers Wanted! - The Ralston Cider Mill is always seeking volunteers as millers. You will be trained to guide visitors through the grounds, to operate the machinery, and to share local history with the public. If interested, send an e-mail for more information.
