Pray with us the Divine Services for the

Saturday of the Souls & Judgement Sunday (Meat-fare)

Around the time of Great Lent, we have some Saturdays which are set aside for the commemoration of the those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. We call these days “Saturday of the Souls”.  It is customary to celebrate the Divine Liturgy, and to offer the memorial service for all our loved ones, family, and friends.  We invite you to prepare Koliva (please note, we will not be mixing the koliva into one bowl, but rather you will take home what you have prepared and offered).  To submit the names of your loved ones who have fallen asleep in the Lord, please bring them to church or submit via the online form included in this email (please, do not do both).

This Sunday, we celebrate Judgement Sunday.  It is the aim of the holy Fathers, through bringing to mind that fearful day, to rouse us from the slumber of carelessness unto the work of virtue, and to move us to love and compassion for our brethren.

May we be strengthened during this season, and truly and completely love Christ our God, with all are heart, mind, and soul. Amen!

Dear Faithful of Annunciation,
As we continue to worship while still adhering to COVID-19 precautions and safety measures, please remember that regular social distancing and wearing of masks will be closely followed on our parish grounds.

It is wonderful to see you back in church, and to hear your voices as we pray to Christ, our Immortal King and God!  Please join us tomorrow to pray the Divine Services for the Saturday of the Souls, and this Sunday for Judgement (Meat-fare) Sunday, inside our church building.

If you are able, healthy, and comfortable, we invite you to pray and celebrate with us, in person, in church.  Masks, contact tracing, and social distancing protocols will, of course, be in place.
As always, our services will continue to be broadcast via our live-stream.

Please keep in your prayers this Sunday, Efstratios "Yianni" as he is ordained to the first rank of the Holy Priesthood, to serve Christ as a deacon.  We wish him ΑΞΙΟΣ! WORTHY! and many years of service to Christ and His Church. You may watch the Divine Liturgy and Sacrament of Ordination on the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation's Parish Website and Facebook, or GOARCH Smart TV App.

*Please note, Due to the different start times and longer Divine Liturgy with a hierarch and ordination, you will still be able to watch the ordination after attending the Divine Liturgy here, in Sacramento.

On Sunday, March 14th, the Reverend Deacon Efstratios "Yianni" will serve for the first time in our parish as a deacon.  The Divine Liturgy with a deacon is a very special, beautiful dialog and expression of prayer, that unfortunately is not seen too often in our churches in America.

With love in Christ,
Fr. James Retelas
Presiding Priest
