The 1st Week of Great and Holy Lent: Salutations to the Theotokos, the Third and Final Saturday of the Souls and Commemoration of the Miracle of the Koliva & the Sunday of Orthodoxy (1st Sunday of Lent)

Around the time of Great Lent, we have some Saturdays which are set aside for the commemoration of the those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. We call these days “Saturday of the Souls”.  It is customary to celebrate the Divine Liturgy, and to offer the memorial service for all our loved ones, family, and friends.  We invite you to prepare Koliva (please note, we will not be mixing the koliva into one bowl, but rather you will take home what you have prepared and offered).  To submit the names of your loved ones who have fallen asleep in the Lord, please bring them to church or submit via the online form included in this email (please, do not do both).

May we be strengthened during this season, and truly and completely love Christ our God, with all our heart, mind, and soul. Amen!

This Sunday we remember the restoration of the Holy Icons under the Empress Theodora in 843 AD.  Bring an icon to Church!

Dear Faithful of Annunciation,
As we continue to worship while still adhering to COVID-19 precautions and safety measures, please remember that regular social distancing and wearing of masks will be closely followed on our parish grounds.

It is wonderful to see you back in church, and to hear your voices as we pray to Christ, our Immortal King and God!  Please join us tomorrow to pray the Divine Services for the Saturday of the Souls, and this Sunday for Forgiveness (Cheese-fare) Sunday, inside our church building.  We also invite you to return to Church for the Vespers of Forgiveness at 7 pm Sunday evening.  We begin Great and Holy Lent by asking and offering forgiveness to one another.

If you are able, healthy, and comfortable, we invite you to pray and celebrate with us, in person, in church.  Masks, contact tracing, and social distancing protocols will, of course, be in place.  As always, our services will continue to be broadcast via our live-stream.

With love in Christ,
Fr. James Retelas
Presiding Priest
