Christ, after His baptism in the Jordan River (celebrated on January 6th) and the arrest of John the Forerunner, began His ministry preaching repentance, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" - this we hear about in today's Gospel, the Sunday after Holy Theophany, and usually the first Sunday of the year.
We spend the New Year making resolutions, reflecting on how we are going to change our lives. Do we reflect on what resolutions we should make for our spiritual life as well? May we in this New Year, strive to become closer to God, through prayer, and the participation in the Holy Sacraments of our Church, namely Confession, Holy Unction, and Holy Communion.
By their holy intercessions, O Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen!
