Of Cookie-Gras & Spaghetti Lunches
Tradition is born of innovation. We are trying out something new for the next three weeks, Cookie-Gras. Cookies will be available in the atrium before both services. My initial plan was to have cookies to celebrate Scout Sunday, which has now moved to February 19th, and a pre-Valentine Day celebration. But we have expanded the idea to include the Sundays of February before Lent, ergo Cookie-Gras.
Innovation is born of need or a desire to fix a problem. I want to fix a problem when I see it, but I don't always know where to start or where it might end. That was how I felt when the choir was without leadership for nearly eight months. I went to Pastor Bobby, and I asked to step in because I wanted to sing Christmas music and have a Christmas cantata. I may have dragged the choir with me, but I think we had a good time. Interim can mean anything from 3 months to 3 years; it all depends on how it goes. Now we have Mr. Phil Igney to lead the choir. He could never take the job from me because I knew I wouldn't be the choir director forever.
Change is scary, but it allows us to grow and serve as needed. The Boy Scouts serve and will be serving Spaghetti Lunch on February 19th at 12pm. The Church has opportunities to serve, during the week, during the service, long-term, short-term, and any other term you can think of. If you like to greet people or want to serve as an usher, you can contact Mrs. Shirley Bean. If you want to help with the front office a couple days a month, you can contact me. If you want to make a joyful noise, Mr. Phil Igney will take you right into the choir. And if you want to help serve the Cokesbury Kids ministry contact, Miss Kathy Minor.
Change also jingles, but in this case, I'm asking you to think of giving your time rather than your money. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a congregation to run a church. Opportunities abound in and around Cokesbury Church.
