Each year, John Wesley would lead the congregations into a time of renewal around January 1st. This renewal introduced a vital part of spiritual life in the church. “This renewal service was a time for the Methodists to gather annually in a time of self-examination, reflection, and dedication, wholly giving up themselves and renewing covenant with God. Repentance through confession and commitment was a key focus of the service, demanding humility from those willing to submit themselves to the dynamic words stated within the liturgy.” (Jonathan Powers, Seedbed)
As we enter into Epiphany, it is vital for us to refresh our minds and hearts. When the Wisemen arrived to see Jesus, it represented the revelation of the Messiah, Jesus, to the whole world. This included the Jew as well as the non—Jew. The Wisemen were not Jewish, yet they recognized that Jesus was God’s son. As the New Year starts, we must reflect on our commitment to Jesus. This covenant is a way to start off the new year in renewal to serving our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pastor Josh
I am no longer my own, but yours. Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you, Praised for you or criticized for you. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and fully surrender all things to your glory and service. And now, O wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, you are mine, and I am yours. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, Let it also be made in heaven. Amen.
