How has the start of your year been going? Have you been able to make headway on the challenges you left in 2018? At Volunteering Victoria, we listened to your feedback last year and with the support of our Board, have commenced investment in some exciting work that we believe will help you and your organisation more meaningfully involve volunteers. 
Besides these germinating projects, we hope this newsletter will help you learn more about our recent advocacy work, forthcoming events, and latest national and international research supporting our shared efforts towards a stronger volunteering sector.

VV 2019 State Conference - Updates

More speakers announced!

The roster of keynote and guest panellists confirmed for the conference is growing.

The Great Debate is coming back to the conference with the topic “A great volunteer manager attends weddings, funerals and everything in-between”. The teams will be finalised and announced shortly.

Volunteering Victoria has signaled its intention to work closely with the Hon Luke Donnellan to deliver on the Government’s State Election Platform with a set of budget proposals for the Government’s forthcoming budget round

Our annual member only event to celebrate National Volunteer Week will be in partnership with City of Melbourne.

We hope you can join us for the 3-hour event (free for members) on Wednesday 22 May from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm at Melbourne Town Hall.

Mentoring Program - Registrations Closing Soon

Registrations for our 2019 mentoring program close on Thursday 7 March.

The mentoring program now in its fifth year, has had enormous success in pairing newer volunteer managers with experienced volunteer managers in their sector to provide great outcomes to support volunteering across the state. Mentees receive individualised support and advice and mentors have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership in the sector.

Report: Impact of the Aboriginal Volunteer Program 

The Impact of the Aboriginal Volunteer Program on Aboriginal Returned Volunteers 2018 Report is one of the first pieces of work reviewing the impact of Aboriginal volunteering in Australia.

It also confirms that the benefits of volunteering go far beyond those achieved during the volunteer assignment itself.

Report: 2019 Volunteer Management Progress Report - Tech Edition

The survey questionnaire was developed with input from two practitioners and a scholar. It included 31-35 (depending on country) closed and open-ended questions; most questions were optional. A total of 1,585 volunteer administrators (paid & volunteer) from 14 countries responded.

Report: The Social and Economic Sustainability of WA's Rural Volunteer Workforce
Volunteering is critical to the survival and success of rural communities in Western Australia (WA). The past two decades have seen an increase in the community services delivered by volunteers and demand on the volunteer workforce has intensified.

Yet, according to data collected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) over the same period there has been a decline in volunteer participation across Australia, resulting in a shortage of volunteer labour.
