Round the Island Race
Saturday is the Round the Island race and it looks like this will be the biggest J/109 event of the year (as usual).  We have 18 J/109s currently showing as entered (see below), spread across a few classes.  It should be a fantastic race.

Please remember that this is an IRC regatta and even though the J/109 is a one design class, many boats sail under different configurations under IRC.  Those with ratings of less than 1.015, which is the vast majority of the fleet, should almost certainly not be sailing with overlapping headsails.  Jukebox appears to be the only boat in the IRC Divisions with a rating above this level, so if it's light, you may see them using their J2.

We do intend to extract and publish the level rated results in addition to the corrected time results since any differences will be useful to track as we evaluate the performance of the two different sail configurations currently allowed under the one-design class rules.
Race Tracking
As discussed in the last mailing, we’d like to roll this out for the following regattas:
J-Cup
Taittinger Royal Solent Regatta
Cowes Week

The class association will cover the cost of running the service with each boat covering the individual cost of their own tracker.

We have been discussing how we cover the various elements of cost with SailRacer and concluded that it is simpler to set a fixed annual cost for Full Season rental of a tracker including charge for connection to the network and to cover data transmission for all events during a season.  This will increase the cost of renting a permanently fitted tracker for the season to £45.00, but there will be no additional per event charge to collect.  As we are implementing this half way through the season and the Spring Championships and Vice Admirals Cup (to be included in next years full season tracking) are already behind us, the charge for the rest of this year will be £40.00 inc VAT.

I hope to encourage as many of you as possible to decide to rent a tracker for the full season at this price since this will eliminate the need to rent trackers on an event by event basis and the delivery and collection issues that come with that.

However, for those that do not elect to rent for the full season, event by event rental will be available at a cost of £2.00+VAT (£2.40 inc VAT) per boat per day with any delivery charges on top of that.

Full Season and Day by Day rental can be arranged directly with SailRacer by hitting the button below.

Simon Lovesey has been experimenting with fitting the permanent units to J/109s and will be able to advise on the best way to do this.

I hope that we can encourage everybody to participate in tracking either with a permanent tracker or day by day rental for the targeted events since it only really works if everybody is involved.

J-Cup and Class AGM
We have had two new entries for the J-Cup since the last mailing, Just So and Jybe Talkin' so we are up to a respectable 8 boats.  This is shaping up to be a very competitive event:
Jago
Jiraffe
Jubilee
Jukebox
Jumping Jellyfish
Just So
Jybe Talkin'
Red Arrow

But there is still time for anyone else to join.  We would love to see a few more of the boats competing in the round the island race next weekend to decide to come and join us for the J-Cup.  It will be a great few days of racing.

Please do make suggestions for any topics you would like to cover at the AGM as we will be publishing the Agenda within the next couple of weeks.
Cowes Week
We are now up to 11 entries for Cowes Week, with the addition of Boo, Jukebox, Jumping Jellyfish and Whiskey Jedi.  This will again be a very competitive event and I know of at least one other entry still to come.

Again, if there is anything we can do to encourage anyone participating in the round the island race to come and join us for Cowes Week, please do get in touch and get your entry in.

Don't forget to book your tickets for the Cowes Week Class Dinner as detailed below.
