There is no way to sugar coat the world right now. Despite coming out of a glorious pride month, heading into the first in-person GCLS conference in years, and successfully navigating our family trip in the southern states while remaining Covid free... there is a pall hanging over our heads as SCOTUS cast blow upon blow against our way of life and basic birth rights.

Yes, I said birth rights and NOT constitutional. As one woman on TikTok put it, the constitution was written by men to give and take away rights. Our body sovereignty is a birth right, and not something to be taken away. Now we just need to decide what we're going to do about it because we know the conservative court will come for the rest. They've promised as much.

Stay angry, stay focused but also enjoy the little moments. And on that note, let's move on to lighter topics, okay?

In just 8 short days I find out if Elemental Attraction is a Goldie winner. That's exciting, right? For those of you who read my first foray into the fantasy world, did you like it, love it, hate it? Did it make you want to #think, #feel, or #discuss? Maybe it made you laugh aloud? Don't be afraid to drop me a line and let me know.

Read the book that keeps folks laughing all the way through. Spoiler, it's got a little heat to go with all that humor.
“That’s all well and good, but unfortunately, the water has lost much of its warmth as a result.” She was taken by a shiver while she said the words, as if to emphasize her point.
“Never fear.” Aderri quickly removed her clothing and stacked it on a bench near the wall. Ellys caught a tantalizing glimpse of dark flesh and glorious curves before turning her eyes away in search of soap. Aderri’s voice got louder as she approached the stone steps that led down into the pool. “If there is one task I’m always good for, it’s heating things up.”
Aderri entered the water with a splash, and heartbeats later, it grew noticeably warmer where the currents of her entry swirled around Ellys. “By Goz, that feels amazing.”
“How warm do you want it? You mentioned scalding earlier, but my heat tolerance will be significantly higher than yours.”
Ellys opened her eyes and met Aderri’s gaze. She studiously ignored thinking of the soft wonderland she knew to be just below the surface of the water. “I can definitely stand it hotter.”
“Is that right?” Aderri moved closer as the water began to heat further.
      Ellys swallowed. “Yes.”
      “How about now?”
Aderri moved until she was right next to Ellys, and she made no secret of her perusal of the tall half-elf’s smooth, toned flesh. Ellys closed her eyes to the appraisal, and Aderri leaned in to whisper, “How hot do you like it?”
The water temperature increased to near scalding. Ellys’s lips parted in pleasure, and her skin tingled at Aderri’s nearness. “Right there. That’s perfect.”
Aderri suddenly moved close enough to brush lips against Ellys’s pointed ear. “Good. I aim to please.” Then she pulled away, and Ellys watched with slitted eyes as she floated on her back to the opposite side of the pool.
Ellys closed her eyes to the retreating curves floating above the water, but she couldn’t scrub the image out of her head. She whispered under her breath, “By Toroc, she’s going to kill me.”

Edale Lane is an award-winning author (Rainbow Awards, Imaginarium Awards, Lesfic Bard Awards) who is realizing her dream of being a full-time writer. I've got a cover for The Last Scion of Ra. Many thanks to the talented May Dawney for her work on this. What do you think? This book takes place roughly 18 years after the events of Children of the Stars, with mostly a new cast of characters and hero's, though you'll see a few familiar faces between the pages.

"Some words end the silence, others begin it."

Name: Edale Lane
Publisher: Past and Prologue Press
Reason you started writing: The stories were in me; I couldn’t help it.
K. Aten notes: Well then. You have to let them out.
Next book to release & when: My newest release is Perilous Passages: The Wellington Mysteries, Vol. 2 on June 20, 2022
Why we should read it: Because it’s freaking awesome! No, really. This book contains six sequential novellas that pick up where book one left off following the love and adventures of a lesbian detective in Victorian England. People enjoy it because it is fast-paced, they can finish a complete story in a sitting, and they have discovered a unique protagonist in Stetson Goody, AKA Xavier Wellington, private investigator.
Genres that you've written: Historical fiction, historical fantasy, historical mystery, and contemporary mystery.
List of published books:

  • Heart of Sherwood
  • Merchants of Milan: Book One of the Night Flyer Trilogy
  • Secrets of Milan: Book Two of the Night Flyer Trilogy
  • Chaos in Milan: Book Three of the Night Flyer Trilogy
  • Missing in Milan: Book 4 of the Night Flyer Series
  • Shadows over Milan: book five of the Night Flyer Series
  • Viking Quest
  • Walks with Spirits
  • Daring Duplicity, The Wellington Mysteries Vol. 1
  • Perilous Passages: The Wellington Mysteries, Vol. 2

Name something you're proud of in regards to your writing: I am proud that I am sticking with it this time. Twenty-plus years ago, I completed Viking Quest and tried for ages to get a publisher. Then I wrote Tribute in Blood under the name Melodie Romeo and ended up with a ridiculous vanity press. The experience was so discouraging I didn’t finish another story until both my kids were grown and well into their careers. But starting with the first edition of Heart of Sherwood in 2018 I have been determined to stick with this and become a full-time author. After retiring from two other careers, I am proud to finally be making that dream a reality.  K. Aten notes: I think you've learned a life lesson that many of us need to learn, never give up. I'm glad you're making your dream come true at last.

Cats or Dogs: I’ve had and love both; currently, it’s dogs. 🐈🐕... 🐕 K. Aten notes: It's so hard to choose!
Name of pet(s) you’re bringing on the Rocket Ship: Skye and Rory, two faithful Australian Shepherds, are eager to hop on board and accompany me on an adventure! K. Aten notes: We really only have room for one pet on the rocket but I'll see if we can squeeze both in!
Coffee/Tea/Water: All of the above, favorite being unsweetened iced tea with lemon ☕🍋
Weapon of choice during Zombie Apocalypse: I have some pretty awesome swords in my collection, and since beheading is the primary method of dispatching a zombie, that’s what I intend to wield. K. Aten notes: I'll gladly pick up one of my own swords and stand at your back! ⚔️
Hobbies: Gardening, computer gaming, and taking trips to visit the grandkids. 🍅 🥕🎮
Do you fanfic? If so, favorite ship: Once upon a time, I earned my chops scribbling fanfiction for Xena Warrior Princess, but now I focus on my own created worlds. K. Aten notes: Xena fanfic was my first experience into the world of sapphic fiction AND the gateway to discovering my own sexuality. Classic! 🥰
