Author Spotlight Introduction
Jax Meyer (they/she) is our amazing Author Astronaut of the Month for October. They are a non-binary autistic butch lesbian, mother, wife, and former Marine. Jax published five novels before transitioning to screenwriting as a fellow in the 2020-2021 Writers Guild Foundation's Veterans Writing Project. Now they juggle novels with films to increase the number of enjoyable stories where the queer characters get happy endings.
Are you interested in promoting diversity in LGBTQIA+ fiction? Bella Books, BOLD STROKES BOOKS, Bywater Books, Flashpoint Publications, and Ylva Publishing are too, and we need your help. Please visit Ideas for Diversity in Publishing to learn more. Click on the image below to learn more.
In case you missed it last month (and for the new folks), or you're really bored, you can watch an author taste test food and/or alcohol with her wife to kill time. (Despite the look on her face, the wife is consenting, I swear!) Click below for our full YouTube playlist.
- Yes, I am working hard (mostly) on The Rebels of Psiere. Want some content key words? Halcyon Station (On yet another island but not like the last one), Queen Eurynome aka Keeper of the Trident, and a mechanical leviathan.
- So...I wrote the short Halloween story. It was different. Then I turned that story into a #supercorp fanfic (as I do), and I've decided to make it a multi-chapter fic. I'm not truly happy with how it's going but it's certainly a different AU take on things. The original Halloween short is pretty much the first chapter of the fanfic version called It Was the End of Days, on AO3. Original title was This Is My Costume.
Use the links and logos in my signature line to find me elsewhere. OTW Member logo will take you to my AO3 fanfic page, where you can read free fiction to your heart's content. Flashpoint logo takes you to my publisher author page, etc.
As always, thank you for your continued support, because a voice is nothing without people to hear. Read, rate, and review. I'm always glad to answer emails and love to see feedback. Drop me a line for all questions, comments, and criticisms. I genuinely want to get better and I'm open to all. Thank you, friends!

Name: Jax Meyer
Publisher: Self Published
Reason you started writing: I’d only discovered lesfic in December of 2017 and had read almost 100 books when I had a dream around March or April. The dream wasn’t anything spectacular, but there was something in it that wouldn’t let me go. So I thought, maybe I could play with it as a short story. Something to entertain me. And that soon turned into Dal Segno. I was hooked and haven’t stopped writing since.
Next book to release & when: Hahahahaha sorry… umm… great question. The next book is an anthology which checks in with each of my couples. I’ll also include a few short stories I wrote with new/upcoming couples. The when is a mystery, but it will be sometime this winter. K. Aten notes: Jax is a busy, BUSY bee making all those words. No, I'm not jealous...why do you ask? LOL
Why we should read it: I chose moments that were meaningful and not simply fun. They’ll take you on emotional journeys that I hope tide everyone over until the Rising from Ash sequel and book 5 in Marine’s Heart. And yes, there will be plenty of steam from the characters you expect it from!
Genres that you've written: Contemporary romance is my focus but that’s expanding as I do more screenwriting to write more drama and not just romance.
List of published books:
- Rising from Ash: Forged by Fire Book 1
- Dal Segno (A Marine's Heart Book 1)
- A Marine Awakening (A Marine's Heart Book 2)
- A Marine Discovery (A Marine's Heart Book 3)
- A Marine's Conflict (A Marine's Heart Book 4)
Name something you're proud of in regards to your writing: I’ve helped people understand and recognize both autism and asexuality in themselves or loved ones. That literally changes their lives and makes all of the hard work worth it. I’m also proud of making the change to screenwriting where I’m having some success despite never attending film school or even watching that many shows/movies. K. Aten notes: When you do so much to help others, it's absolutely something to be proud of.

Cats or Dogs: Cats – I have sensory issues so while I love all animals, I’m a bad dog parent. 🐈🐱
Coffee/Tea/Water: Water followed by unsweetened tea followed by coffee. K. Aten notes: LOL, you had me at water and lost me at coffee.
Weapon of choice during Zombie Apocalypse: Not a zombie person, but I’d rather a ranged weapon so I don’t get all the guts on me. Is that an option? K. Aten notes: I mean, who can argue with the logic of neatness?
Hobbies: I don’t have time for hobbies except coaching my daughters U7 soccer team. ✍️⚽
Do you fanfic? If so, favorite ship: I don’t write or read it, but I love Wayhaught. K. Aten notes: What's not to love? 💖
A Marine's Conflict by Jax Meyer & Elle Armstrong
Mags Newsome has already given over a decade of her life to the Marine Corps. She's learned to compartmentalize her life to survive the “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” policy that keeps servicemembers from serving openly. But that’s also kept her from any meaningful relationships.
Elaine 'Lane' Chapman moved to the US from England with her girlfriend who soon left her. Remaining in sunny southern California, Elaine built a life for herself as a college math professor, content to experience love through romance novels rather than risk her heart again.
A chance encounter in a bookstore cafe brings the two women together where they discover an off the charts attraction. As they battle their feelings to maintain their ‘friends with benefits’ agreement, another war looms in the Middle East, threatening everything they’ve built.
A Marine’s Conflict is a standalone lesbian romance in the Marine’s Heart series, with overlapping events from A Marine Discovery.
