The Weekly Catch

Fifteenth Sunday After Trinity
13th September 2020
Dear Friends,
Welcome to this week's Catch. Make sure to check the notices section of this email so that you don't miss anything.

Reflection

Dear all,

David wrote in Psalm 139, ‘You have searched me, Lord, and you know me, … you discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways’ (vs 1 &3).  There is something powerful about knowing and being known by God. But we too need to know ourselves and our going out and laying down with God’s perspective.
Just a couple of days ago Linda and I were able to attend a webinar about leading in times of uncertainty.  In this webinar we were given a few questions to use for ourselves in just this type of discerning exercise.  I am giving these questions here and asking you to use them in thinking about what God is saying to you. You could personalise them for yourself or just think about yourself as part of the body of Christians in Ipsley. Take your Bible, and a notebook and set time apart asking God’s Holy Spirit to speak to you as you consider these questions.
  1. Who are we?
  2. Who are we here to serve?
  3. What do we stand for?
  4. What is God calling us to be and do or not?
  5. What is God asking us to stop doing?
I hope you find this exercise useful as I am doing?  If you want to share your thoughts do email or send them in by text and we will share with you in your journey as it entwines with ours.

Blessings,

Canon Garth Nathaniel

Please consider giving to the Diocese of Worcester Ministry Fund:
As many churches see a reduction in regular giving due to the ongoing pandemic, the Diocese are asking for donations to help fund clergy stipends. Please see the Ministry Fund page on the Diocese website for more details.
Cash Donations:
The Diocesan Board of Finance have asked that when we return we use non-cash giving wherever possible. As they stated ‘Money is God’s provision and we are grateful for it but at the present time cash is considered dirty.’

We have been advised not to use an offertory plate/box to try to limit the cash we receive in this way. However, as weekly giving envelopes are still being used, the offertory box will still be in place.
Anything placed in the offertory box will have to be stored safely for 72 hours before being handled. During this time the contents will not be counted and the box containing the envelopes and any loose cash will be locked away. The box will be wiped with cleansing wipes before and after being handled.

When we return we hope to have use of a SumUp terminal that will enable offerings to be made by card.
Alternatively the Parish Giving Scheme is a good way of giving on a regular basis and I encourage everyone to prayerfully consider joining it.

Collect for Today:

God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit upon your Church in the burning fire of your love:
grant that your people may be fervent in the fellowship of the gospel
that, always abiding in you,
they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Amen

Patronage Churches:
Patronage interviews are ramping up as many dioceses catch up on filling posts through a combination of virtual and physical meetings. Pray for the Patronage team and trustees as they seek to find the right incumbent for each parish.

Prayer Points:
  • Pray God’s blessing on Andrew Smith who is being licensed at Markfield (Leicester) on 21 September and Phil Arnold who is being licensed at Upper Armley (Leeds) on 22 September.
  • Lift up clergy who are looking for a move, many of whom are finding the process of seeking a new job difficult at this time as priorities shift and things remain uncertain.
  • Due to the financial challenges of the last few months, some parishes who were seeking a new incumbent are now unable to do so. Please pray for them to find a way forward in this difficult situation.

Please pray for those who are ill:

Pastor Robin Baker, Pat Hale, Jenny Latham, Graham Twist, Betty Wood, Tia, Kate Bainbridge, Chris Tilley, Andrew Johnson, Alex Street, Peter Barcham, Erica Dilger, Michael Hawkins, Mark Brunner, Glynis Horton, Linda Grummet, Steve Thomas, Jane Gray, Iyra Dutton, Karen Lumley, Malcolm Gilks, June Gillett, Elsie, Delia Davies, Laraine Ellis, David Spencer, Irene Spencer, Eleanor East, John Knight (particularly for his hand), Steve (a friend of Pat Hale), John Stain, Anne Jones, John F, Anne Jones, John Forman, Richard Mills, Jean Kesterton, Phyllis Griffiths,
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
