Hello from Orono Public Library!

We’re Still Here! Although we are still closed to the public, we invite our members to explore the plethora of virtual resources in this newsletter to stay engaged, informed, and entertained.  Staff is back in the building during the week and able to help should you need assistance with digital services, applying for a library card, requesting materials, scheduling a curbside pickup or anything else that can be done via email or phone.  We’re looking forward to hearing from you!  Email, or call 866-5060.

A Word from the Library Staff

We know change is the only constant in life - 2020 has certainly been upholding that old adage! And that includes things here at the Orono Public Library. We are excited to share the news, and please join us in congratulating Louise Jolliffe as she transitions from Youth Services Librarian to Circulation Manager! Louise is replacing Wendy Neary, who is embarking on a new adventure with her family, moving across the pond to Ireland. Also, our Youth Services Clerk Janette Landis is moving on, leaving the library after many years of dedicated service. We will miss Wendy and Janette a ton, and we wish them both the best, always.

Farewell from Janette, our Youth Services clerk

It is with a mix of emotions that I am leaving my position at the OPL.  While I am looking forward to the perks of retirement and hiding out at camp as much as possible with my husband this summer, I am sad to be leaving the OPL, which is truly a special place in our community.  It has been wonderful to work with the great staff here and the many amazing volunteers who share their time and talents here, and to get to know so many people in our community in the process.  I will miss seeing you all at the library!

Janette Landis

Curbside Pickup

Curbside Pickup is running smoothly, with appointments available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. We have our new lockers installed to keep your items safe and dry for your scheduled pickup. For those of you who can’t get here during the appointed hours, you can schedule an appointment for 5pm and have until noon the next day to pick up your items. For the complete instructions on using our curbside pickup process, click here:

Requesting in Minerva

Currently you may request Orono items through Minerva.  We have just learned that statewide van delivery of library materials will resume in July, we’ll let you know when you can begin requesting items from other libraries…. it won’t be too much longer! And for those of you who would like to use our curbside pickup service, but you're not sure about which titles to request? Give us a call at 866-5060 or send an email to and let us know...

"My family needs picture books! Could you pick out a stack for me?"

"I like mysteries. Would you reserve me a few?"

"I would like to see a couple of drama and comedy movies. Could you choose some?"

We can do this!

We have many new periodicals and are circulating the newest issue of each, they can be requested in Minerva (or give us a call) when you are reserving items.

Census 2020

April 1st was Census Day! Sometime in the past couple of weeks you received a piece of mail from the U.S. Census Bureau. It's time to open it! Inside will be your specific Census ID. Once you have it, go to and start the process. If you don't have your number, instructions are provided. Census data directly affects funding and resources for communities, so it's important to make sure you're counted.
