Hello friends and colleagues,

Those of you who know me well know that this is my favorite month.

First of all, my birthday is in October, and despite being in the 40-something age range, I still enjoy celebrating it. Second, it is a beautiful time of year. Don't get me wrong, I love summer, but the crispness of autumn on the East Coast is always a welcome reprieve after months of sweltering heat. Third, I have always enjoyed Halloween, especially once I had kids who could share their candy with me.

Two years ago, I added another celebration to this month - the anniversary of Cordelia Anderson Consulting. I officially began operating in October 2018, and it has been a fun ride ever since. I send my heartfelt thanks to all of my clients, past, present and future. Thanks for allowing me to help you tell your stories and make the world a better place - especially now, when your services are needed more than ever.

This fall feels different for a variety of reasons. COVID-19, the upcoming election, wildfires on the West Coast, and many other challenges fill our news cycles and cause us worry and concern. All I can say is that I hope you have the best October you can under the circumstances.  And if you need to eat a Tootsie Roll or a piece of candy corn to feel better, I won't judge. Better yet, I'll join you.

Sincerely,

Results of Last Month's Poll

poll imageLast month, I asked my readers about what types of professional development they are engaging in while traditional conferences are cancelled or postponed. Here's what you said.

40% responded "I'm attending virtual conferences"
27% responded "I'm reading more books"
27% responded "I'm attending webinars"
6% responded that they were not doing any professional development at this time

No matter where you are or what you do, I hope that you find ways to make time for yourself and your personal or professional development. On the other hand, if you're juggling too many things right now, it's also ok to take a break. These are unprecedented times.

White Paper: Navigating Unstable Library Funding
in a Challenging World

This whitepaper originated as a series on my blog, cordeliaandersonapr.com/blog. The series shared experiences and lessons learned from serving as the marketing and communications director for a large public library during the 2008 recession and resulting library funding cuts.

My hope is that this whitepaper will help libraries prepare for and respond to funding challenges and economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
