November 2018 Newsletter
This past week has been very trying. There was an enormous fire next to my building, and I have been displaced. My horns are being repaired from the smoke, but thankfully everyone survived and we are surrounded by an incredibly supportive community. If you are interested in helping Berklee students through this difficult time, consider donating to the Berklee Student Emergency Fund.
Nonetheless, October was a fantastic month! Women in Jazz Collective hosted its Tribute to Women in Jazz Concert, featuring 6 incredible bands. I was honored to play with my mentor Ayn Inserto. WJC also had its monthly jam session in collaboration with Virtuosity Musical Instruments, which was awesome!
Some exciting things have already happened this month. I was honored to participate in a roundtable discussion at the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice open house. I was also thrilled to be a clinician at the first-ever Jazzhers event. Jazzhers is a wonderful new program committed to empowering female high school jazz musicians in Massachusetts. It was inspiring to work with these talented, enthusiastic students!
I look forward to all the wonderful adventures left to be had this month. I will be focusing on recovering from the fire, writing new music, and hopefully recording some new works soon!
