March 2019 Newsletter

February was an incredible month! I had my audition at New England Conservatory for my Master of Music degree. I was selected to present a paper and an original composition at the IAWM and FT&M15 Conference this summer. I was also awarded the Woodwind Department Achievement Award and the Toshiko Akiyoshi Award at Berklee. I ended the month on a high note performing with the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra featuring guest artist John Hollenbeck.

March promises to be another amazing month. Women in Jazz Collective partnered with the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, the Berklee Woodwind Department, and Vandoren to bring Roxy Coss to our campus for a series of events.

I also had the opportunity to teach with some of my friends at Jazzhers' second event last weekend. Jazzhers is an organization founded by trombonist and band director Lisa Linde that is committed to shaping the future of jazz by helping young musicians who identify as female to become connected and feel empowered within the jazz community.

I am beginning to prepare for my senior recitals happening next month. I will be leading a big band recital of original compositions and a jazz quintet recital of standard repertoire. It is a busy and exciting time. Looking forward to continuing this amazing month!
