Rooted in God’s Love We Celebrate
UCC General Synod is happening NOW and for the first time, I (Pastor Emily) am a SD delegate. This year’s theme is Rooted in Love, and I’d encourage you to check out the many public events and resources online! I will offer an update on Sunday, the day Synod 2021 comes to a close.
One of the great joys of events like UCC General Synod is the reminder of how broad our UCC family truly is. We embody a tiny portion of Christ’s church right here in Pierre, SD, but God is at work in SO MANY PLACES across this beautiful globe.
This awareness is significant to me both as a Christian and as an ordained minister. I cherish connecting our congregation with siblings in the UCC, and I’d be happy to have a conversation with you about the broader scope of the UCC worldwide. It’s a phenomenal and eclectic faith family that holds origin in John 17:21 “That they may all be one.” Unity across difference is compelling spiritual work, especially in a day like ours.
When we stay rooted in love, we remain faithful and fruitful together, even across difference…that’s Christ’s revolutionary love at work!

Freezer Meals for Expecting Families!
We have THREE families expecting babies in coming weeks, and we’d like to offer freezer meals to support the early days of transition for each household. Taniya and Aric Bethke, Justin & Lindsey Evans, and Avery Vanden Bos and family will all feel our support in the tangible gift of meals. Create a freezer meal (or two or three!), label with instructions, and simply drop-off at the church on one or both collection days.
TWO DATES to drop off meal(s) at the church office:
Saturday July 24 at 10am
Saturday August 28 at 10am
We will be sure meals are distributed to the households. If you can’t make these dates work but would like to contribute, let Pastor Emily know!
Supporting our Lakota Neighbors
Last Sunday Bree Oatman shared a giving story that involved a request to make good on our commitment to love our indigenous neighbors; To honor the lost lives of Lakota children who died at Carlisle Indian School after having been unjustly separated from their families, leaders of the Rosebud Tribe are arranging a proper burial for nine of their children returning at last to their ancestral home. A collection is being taken to cover the expenses of 9 star quilts and 9 pairs of moccasins for these children. We gave over $200 as a church last Sunday, and more donations are greatly appreciated.
