Fundraising Campaign for Office in Washington, D.C.

Dear Friends of Brazil:
We need your help!
Since its founding at Columbia University Law School on December 1, 2018, the U.S. Network for Democracy in Brazil has worked tirelessly to:
  • Educate the U.S. public about the current situation in Brazil;
  • Defend progressive social, economic, political, and cultural advances in Brazil; and
  • Support social movements, community organizations, NGOs, universities, and activists, etc., who will be vulnerable in this new political climate.
Our members and supporters organized over 50 public events throughout the country honoring Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes on the anniversary of their assassination. We backed efforts to block Bolsonaro’s visit to New York City. We have fought against attacks on indigenous peoples, Afro-Brazilians, the LGBT+ community, rural workers, quilombolas, and in defense of the Amazon rainforest and the environment. We have also worked in Washington, D.C. to generate Congressional letters denouncing Bolsonaro’s policies on a range of issues.
At our Second National Meeting, held at Georgetown University on October 19, 2019, we decided to launch an ambitious campaign to raise $100,000 in order to open the Washington, D.C. Office for Democracy in Brazil. We want to hire a full-time staff person who can work with members of Congress and organize visits of progressive politicians and leaders of social movements and unions both to and from Brazil to deepen links of transnational solidarity. We want to create an alternative voice in Washington, D.C., strengthen the national network, and influence U.S. policy on Brazil.
To do this, we are partnering with the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR), a Washington think-tank, that promotes democratic debate on important national and international economic and social issues. We have already raised $20,000, one fifth of our goal. However, we need your support!
We offer you two options:
  1. Go to the Go Fund Me page and give us a donation. (Donations are tax-deductible.)
  2. Send us a check for $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or however much you can contribute to help us establish the Washington Office. You can send a tax-deductible donation to: CEPR, 1611 Connecticut Ave., NW Suite 400, Washington, DC, 20009. Please note on the check that it is for the D.C. Office for Democracy in Brazil.
A luta continua,
