2020 Predicaments in Supplier Management: Top 3 Problems in SXM.

Despite all the talk about data being the “new oil” over the last couple of years, the fact remains that most organizations have no real strategy when it comes to managing supplier data. Supplier data exists in silos in ERP solutions, in AP solutions and in a number of different procurement solutions, and there is often a lack of understanding in the procurement (and finance) organizations about what supplier master data management (MDM) means and why it is important.

Even the IT department may misunderstand the area by viewing it merely as a technical data integration problem rather than a larger business problem.

Is technical debt always bad?

Technical debt refers to the cost of delivering software or services which will require rework due to known or unknown factors
.Often it is caused by choosing an easy or quick solution due to time pressures, lack of ability, negligence or a legacy system so old or complex that no one is confident in making changes to.
Not all technical debt is bad, and managing it well can yield tremendous benefits for your company but you have to be wise about incurring tech debt. Accumulated debt can eventually impact on your release speeds, frustrate the business and demoralise the development team.

The procurement of services is a growing and important sector and is now one of the largest “master spend categories” for an organisation. But procurement processes, having traditionally focused on products, have not always kept up with or adapted to this trend. Buying professional services is a different beast from that of buying goods and materials.
The successful purchase of physical goods relies on tangible outcomes, like on-time-delivery, quality, quantity, best cost, and so on, and often the supplier/buyer relationship finishes once the contract is met. Buying services, by contrast, is not tangible.

Faulty technology integrations created a few multi-million dollar supply chain disasters in 2019.
If an operational blunder rises to the level that investors hear about it straight from the CEO — that's bad. If the media holds it up as a cautionary tale, something has gone terribly wrong.

Creating A Green Supply Chain

The momentum for a strong corporate sustainability strategy is present and growing. Shareholders, corporate boards, and employees are demanding ambitious and management-endorsed sustainability strategies. These strategies are not bound to an organisation – they also cover the supply chain, alleviating unpredictability between suppliers and buyers.
Supply chain management is complex due to the large number of players, the lack of available data (transparency), and that companies can only indirectly influence decisions made by suppliers and the resulting effects.
