Watertown Mayer Elementary School
Growth through Connections and Opportunities
November 8, 2019
This month, our school-wide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements and monthly social-emotional skills lesson, we'll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others' feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

Please let me know if you'd like more suggestions about supporting skills for learning at home or check out the Second Step website.

Food Shelf Drive
WMES Students participated in the Great Pumpkin Chase Walk/Run for Food Shelf Donations. Now is the time to collect the food shelf items/money and get it turned in. All items must be brought to the school by November 14th, so that we can deliver them to the Friends for Life Food Shelf here in Watertown on November 15th.
We are collecting Halloween candy to send to service members this year. We will be collecting candy until November 12th (the last day of conferences). There is a box located in the elementary office to put any extra candy in.

This is a great opportunity to talk to your children about the sacrifices service members make and how we can help put a smile on the faces of people who do so much for our country.

Thank you for your support!
Cold Weather Reminder
The weather is changing! Please remember students are expected to go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 0 degrees. Please make sure your children are dressed for the weather including jackets, hats and mittens to ensure safe and enjoyable outdoor play. Thanks for your cooperation!
Crossing Guard Update
There will be no crossing guards at the corner of Paul Avenue and Highway 24 or at the round-about intersection of Paul Avenue and Highway 20 for the winter months. Notice will be given in the spring when the crossing guards will return.
