Watertown Mayer Elementary School
Growth through Connections and Opportunities
October 28, 2019
On October 23rd, our school participated in Unity Day, a nationwide event created by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center to stand up to bullying. We came together in one giant orange message of hope and support. We wear orange to show that we believe that no child should ever experience bullying.
WMES conferences are on Thursday, November 7th and Tuesday, November 12th. Parents will sign up for their conference time through the online program PickATime. An email was sent out today with a link for PickATime.
They will start serving at 7:30 am. The cost will be a normal breakfast charge of $1.65.
"Great Pumpkin Chase" Food Shelf Drive
WMES Students will be participating in the Great Pumpkin Chase Walk/Run for Food Shelf Donations. This event combines physical activity, wellness and community service for our students.

Please see the link below for more information:
Students in Mrs. Guetzkow's kindergarten class took a piece of clay and used some trial and error to turn it into a boat! Lots of critical thinking, cooperation and collaboration happening here in kindergarten!
Third grade students had the opportunity to tour the Mill City Museum.
Grade Four Field Trip to Ney Park
Kindergarten Field Trip to Lowry Nature Center
October 8th was Fire Safety Day at WMES.
Students in kindergarten and grade 1 enjoyed story time with Sparky and/or meeting Watertown Firefighters. Other grade levels toured a firetruck or the Fire Safety House or went through the Firefighter Challenge Obstacle Course. What a fun way to learn about fire safety! A special thank you to the Watertown Fire Department!
Notes from the Nurse...
Cold weather has set in and everyone is spending more time together inside. This is the time of the year when there is an increase in cases of head lice and illness.

Check your child's head frequently, whenever you comb or brush their hair. No sharing of brushes and hats.

Here is more information about head lice from the Minnesota Department of Health: MN Dept of Health: Head Lice

This year is predicted to be a heavy year for influenza, so continue to monitor for illness. Influenza is a reportable illness, so please report diagnosed influenza or influenza-like illnesses to the school. Get your flu shot, if you haven't already!
