February Newsletter
Dear CMNC Community,

Hello and welcome to the February edition of the Carrie Murray monthly newsletter! As this wintery month brings us chilly days and snowy nights we hope your hearts are filled with the warmth of love for one another. Just as the animals in our forest have cozied up in their burrows and nests we hope that you're able to take time to relax and slow down.

In this month's issue, we are celebrating Black History Month by remembering Carrie Murray. We also have fun news and reflections to share with you. As well as announcements of new and returning programs that we are offering! We are overjoyed to share these announcements with you and hope you feel as excited about them as we do.

While the Nature Center remains closed due to COVID-19 protocols we are continuing to offer an array of outdoor and virtual programs for all ages during the week and on weekends!

As always thank you so much for reading and for your support. We can't wait to see you on your next visit to the park!

With love,

Mary Hardcastle
CMNC Director
A Tribute to Carrie Murray
As we celebrate Black History Month and recognize some of the incredible individuals that have made history with their acts of courage, strength, and love we wanted to take time to recognize the incredible woman that our nature center is named after. In 1985 our nature center was dedicated to Carrie Murray by her son Orioles baseball hall-of-fame legend Eddie Murray. Ms. Murray’s gentle spirit and strength of character greatly influenced her twelve children. She instilled in them the importance of family, respect for nature, and a sense of responsibility, leadership, and accomplishment. We are honored to play a small part in carrying on her legacy and we are inspired daily to fulfill her mission to care for nature and each other.

News & Highlights
Snowflake Festivus at CMNC
Last month we held our annual Snowflake Festivus with our Therapeutic Recreation Department! Together we welcomed in winter and celebrated the beauty and wonder of snow and the natural world in its chilliest season. Our animal ambassadors even made an appearance to meet their new friends. It was amazing to celebrate the fresh new year and season with such wonderful company and fun wintery crafts!
Education Anywhere
Field Trips have returned to the Carrie Murray Nature Center, although they are looking a bit different these days! We were thrilled to launch our newest virtual offering through our partnership with Every Kid Outdoors. Through our virtual field trips students have been able to meet animal ambassadors and learn all about Gwynns Falls Leakin Park. We are thrilled to be able to continue to engage with students even from afar. Make sure to checkout our website for more details if you are interested in having a virtual experience of your own! We are offering programs for a variety of groups and interests.
Wild Haven Happenings
Rain, snow, and ice can't stop Wild Haven adventurers from playing and learning in the forest! While the weather might be wet and muddy, so much joy is found every day on the trails together. In February, the children participate in "Love Day," a celebration of gratitude for each other and the forest. We will exchange cards from recycled materials, share a special snack, and leave some treats outside for the animals. There's no better time to give our forest friends some extra love than in February!
Come Visit Us And View Beautiful Winter Birds!
